Dr Jaspreet Singh, president of the Residents Doctors Association, PGI, said a chapter of Youth for Equality would be opened in the PGI once the forum was registered in Delhi. “We will also open its chapters in other centres of North India. For the time being we will perform our required duties and respect the Supreme Court orders which have clearly instructed the administration not to take punitive action against those who participated in the strike.” The resident doctors also met the PGI’s Deputy Director, Administration today to ensure that no action is taken against the protesters. In fact, the doctors, in today’s general body meeting, requested the UT Administration to consider the order in which the apex court assumed the government would not punish those who joined the strike. The doctors had not yet received their salaries for last month. “The salaries have not been prepared yet, although we joined duty on June 1. The strike lasted from May 16 to 31,” Dr Jaspreet Singh said. The PGI Administration, for its part, clarified that it would follow the national policy in this regard.
