Doraha, May 26
The Doraha branch of the Indian Medical Association observed a complete bandh in support of the on-going agitation by the doctors and residents against the reservation policy yesterday.
Submitting a memorandum to the President through Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, the members said they were fully with the youth in their fight against caste-based reservation in higher education institutes. IMA, Doraha also condemned the police brutality on the agitating students.
Dr Jagmohan Singh President, IMA branch, Doraha-Sahnewal, demanded the system of caste-based reservation should be done away with at all costs. He, along with other members demanded that the proposed 27 per cent reservation for OBC’s in higher education institutions should be rolled back completely.
Further, a judicial or independent political committee, should be constituted to closely analyse the issue of reservation in the educational institutions and jobs.
Members said reservation should be on the basis of economic status. The members said the Constitution of India provides equality to all under Article 15 but the scheming politicians had passed the 93rd constitutional amendment to dilute the spirit of the Constitution.
OPD services in all hospitals in Doraha and Sahnewal remained suspended.
The emergency services were, however, provided to the needy patients. Students of Sidhu School of Nursing also participated and prepared chants and banners condemning the reservation policy.
