Jogeshwar tops mock CAT in city Ludhiana, May 7 The test was held simultaneously in Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Moga, Patiala, Bathinda and Shimla. About 3,000 students appeared at various centres in Punjab. In Ludhiana the test was conducted at the GGNIMT. “The students’ response was more than expected as more than 200 students appeared in the test in Ludhiana. Awareness is increasing every year”, said Sukhwinder Singh, centre director, Bulls Eye, Ludhiana. Jogeshver secured 59 marks out of 150 which is a very high score. Gagan Sharma, with 58.66 marks, came second while the third position was won by Vikram Dev Thakur who scored 53.67 marks. They were awarded a scholarship of Rs 7,500 each. The results were followed by a detailed feedback and analysis session by Mr Dinesh Kumar, alumnus of University Business School and author of various books on CAT. |
PCTE achieves
100 pc placement for MBA students Ludhiana, May 7 As many as 36 companies recruited MBA students of the PCTE through on and off campus recruitment process. The maximum salary package offered to students was Rs 5.32 lakh per annum by Asian Paints. PCTE students of MBA have got an average package of Rs 2.89 lakh per annum. India Bulls recruited 18 students of the PCTE through campus recruitment process at a package of Rs 3.61 lakh per annum. The companies which offered recruitment to PCTE students of MBA final year were Asian Paints, Thomas Cook, Vardhman, ICICI Bank, India Bulls, HDFC Bank, IMRB, CMC, Nokia India, Samsung India, Birla Sun Life, HSBC Bank, Citifinancial, Max New York Life Insurance, Chevron, Natraj Pencils, ING Vyasa, ICICI Prudential, Nestle India, India Mart, Eli Lilly, Cipla, Informedia, Bharti, Hutch, Fortis, Bajaj Allianz, Ralson India, Priya Gold and FX Traders. Dr K.N.S. Kang, Director, PCTE said, “This is the sixth batch of MBA students who have got 100 per cent placements in various companies at higher salary packages and positions as compared to previous years. Apart from this, in academics also, the PCTE students have bagged all five gold medals decided in the university in MBA since the inception of the college in 1999. Now the training and placement department of the PCTE have started with the second round of recruitment offering higher packages and brands to the students of the PCTE.” |
Girls motivated to pursue higher studies Ludhiana, May 7 Heads of 35 educational institutions of Ludhiana put forward their views. They were welcomed by Principal Harmit Kaur and Ms Kanwaljeet Kaur, president of the association. The aim of the seminar was to provide a platform for educationists to come together for a collective effort to motivate girls to pursue higher education. Views were also expressed on the need to take parents into confidence and find ways in which girls, mostly hailing from financially weak sections of society, could be provided assistance by way of fees and books. For this purpose, the help of old students was sought, who could serve as role models. Also present on the occasion were a large number of old students of the college who shared with the audience their experience inside and outside the college and thanked the college staff and authorities for helping them achieve their dreams. They said now they would strive to help other girls like themselves and achieve similar success. After the seminar, Ms Gunwant Kaur, Principal of Girls Public School and a former student of Ramgarhia Girls College, released the college magazine for the session 2004-05. The first copy of the magazine was presented to Mr Ranjodh Singh, president, Ramgarhia Educational Council. |

Dr Komal elected PCCTU president Ludhiana, May 7 It may be mentioned here that Dr Komal belongs to Prof Hundal group which has gained control over nine districts while the other group won in three districts. There is a tie in three districts with both candidates getting equal votes. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Dr Komal said his main focus would be on the implementation of the Johal Committee Report, restoration of grants to B.Ed colleges, justice for librarians and DPEs, extending help to teachers of unaided colleges and also those working on unaided posts. Apart from this, Dr Komal said teachers of rural villages were facing a lot of problems, he would try to sort out their problems. "We will ensure complete parity with government college teachers. We will work for providing benefits of pension to all teachers and stress on the restoration of 95 per cent grant in aid. We will also stress to provide hospitalisation benefits to teachers etc during our tenure", said Dr Komal. |

Teachers meet Education Minister Ludhiana, May 7 The members of the front presented three demands and said Mr Johar had given telephonic orders to the Education Department to comply with his orders. Their main demand was demerger of primary schools with high and middle school which was ordered by Education Secretary through a letter issued on December 21, 2005. The second demand of the teachers was that promoted teachers sent to far flung areas should be recalled in their own blocks. |

Beware of fanatics, says Punjabi poet Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 7 At the same time he pleaded with the governments of the two nations to impress upon their respective intelligentsia to join hands for the revival of efforts to bridge the gap among the hearts of citizens of neighbouring countries. Noor, who has authoured seven books on Punjabi poetry in India and Pakistan, has resigned from a nationalised bank to complete his pending work to publish the creations of more than 600 Pakistani Punjabi poets, collected during his last visit to that country. "As the Director, Languages Department had declined my request to publish these works," I have decided to complete the work on my own. After all I have committed to the Pakistani Punjabi poets that their feelings, depicted in Shahmukhi (Punjabi language in Urdu script) would be made available to Indian readers in Gurmukhi," said Noor while talking to the Ludhiana Tribune. |
Books by Avtar Gill released Ludhiana, May 7 “Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the Kohinoor”, “Bad-Naseeb Maharaja Dalip Singh” and “Meri Walayat Pheri” were released by the Cabinet Minister and IHRO National Adviser, Dr S.S. Johl, Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, PAU VC, and Dr Surjit Pattar, Punjabi poet. All three books have been authored by retired Additional Sessions Judge, Mr Avtar Singh Gill. He wrote the books after visiting Pakistan and UK for his research work, according to IHRO chairperson D.S. Gill who managed the stage. Dr Aulakh released the main book. Dr Johl has written the foreword to Bad-Naseeb Maharaja Dalip Singh”. Prof Prithipal Singh Sohi, Prof Balwinderpal Singh, Dr Pattar and Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota, Principal, Master Tara Singh College, shared their views on well-documented and well-researched books. Mr Harish Dhanda, Chairman, Punjab and Haryana Bar Council, appreciated the efforts of his colleague for producing remarkable history on the Sikh kingdom, earlier ignored by most historians. Others who attended the function included Mr Ranvinder Singh Brar and Mr Gurmukh Singh, IHRO activist from the USA, Mr Ranjit Singh Gill, Mr Sukhminder Singh Sandhu, and Mr Ranjodh Singh, president of the Ramgarhia Council and Education Trust. Mr D.S. Gill informed the audience that IHRO, along with other groups, would take up the matter of bringing Sikh heirlooms back to the country with the British Government in light of Prince Charles’ promises made during his visit to India last month. A meeting in the British Parliament Committee room had been fixed for May 12 in this regard. |
