600 students given books

Jagraon, April 30
As many as 600 students from about 30 schools were today given books, while 20 students were awarded scholarships. The students who achieved first, second and third position in Board examinations at the state, district and tehsil level were honoured at a function organised by the book bank, Jagraon. Mr Gurcharan Singh Galib, member All-India Congress Committee was the chief guest. Mr Nachhattar Singh, Joint Director Social Security, Women and Child Development, Punjab was also present.

Dr Satish Sharma, Principal, LRDAV college, was the guest of honour. Students of Mrs Satish Gupta Sarvhitkari Vidya Mandir High School were also present at the function. On a call by Capt Naresh Verma donors donated generously for the cause of the students. Addressing the gathering Mr Himmat Verma, president of book bank assured of more such functions to help poor or needy students.

Oath taking ceremony

The new local team of Bharat Vikas Parishad for 2006-2007 headed by Mr Satish Sood as its president, Dr Satinder Bhushan Gupta, secretary and Mr Lokesh Tandon as treasurer were administered oath on Sunday night by Mr Vipan Dhingra, general secretary of the parishad, Panjab unit at a function held at Mrs Satish Gupta, Sarvhitkari vidya Mandir here. Mr Lakhbir Singh Uppal, Manager, RBB, Allahabad Bank, Moga, was the chief guest whereas Dr Vipan Gupta, Mr Surinder Singh, Mr Narinder Mittal and Mr K B Aggarwal were guest of honour.

Mr Daya Chand Jain, president, Market Committee. Mr B K Goel advocate, Dr Manish Jain and Mr Surjit Bansal were also present.

Help for needy students

Amloh, April 30
Mr Surinder Singh Mundi, on behalf of his son, Dr Jasvir Singh, who is settled in Canada, handed over a cheque for Rs 24,000 to meet the annual education expenses of four students at the annual prize distribution function of Global Pearls Public School, Kaulgarh, 8 km from here, yesterday.

Mr Pakhar Singh Salana, Chairman of the Zila Parishad, Fatehgarh Sahib, presided over the function.

The Principal of the school, Ms Prabhdeep Kaur, thanked the guests present on the occasion.

Inter-school quiz competition

Ludhiana, April 30
Mr Manoj Kumar Verma of Frankfinn organised an inter -school quiz competition here yesterday in which 11 schools of the city participated.

The students enjoyed the quiz as it was informative. They said it increased the quotient of their general knowledge.

Inderpreet Kaur and Maninder Kaur, ex- students of Frankfinn and at present working with airlines shared their experiences with the students .

The results of the competitions are as follows:

Govind Bhardwaj first, Gagandeep Singh second, and Rahul Raina third. Karan Verma and Sukhjit Singh Sandhu were given consolation prizes . The winners were awarded trophies and certificates by Mr A.K Dhadoo of Reliance Industries Ltd.

Ms Savita Chadha, centre head , Frankfinn, appreciated the students for showing keen interest.
