‘Impetus-2006’ organised at pharmacy college

Ludhiana, April 23
Gujranwala Guru Nanak (GGN) Khalsa College of Pharmacy organised an interactive workshop 'Impetus-2006' for its students here today. The workshop was organised with a view to enhance the awareness levels and develop the professional skills of the budding pharmacists.

Parvinder Singh, Senior Faculty, GGN Institute of Management and Technology, sensitised the students about the importance of making a powerful first impression on the prospective employees in the job interview. A well-designed resume, proper personal grooming, sound academic knowledge, good clarity and effective communication skills were essential to face and succeed in interviews.

Mr Puneet, Regional Sales Manager, Microlabs, acquainted the students with the employees perspectives and expectations. He highlighted the importance of time management, effective presentation and marketing relationship. In the times of cut-throat competition, planning of work was very essential, he said.

Mr Sanjeev Garg, Drug Inspector , Ludhiana district, outlined the legal procedure for setting up a drug store. He also informed the students about the expectations of the administration from the trade and also the consequences of not complying with the laws.

Mr Kuldeep Singh, Director-Principal, and Ms Ravinder Dang, Head of the department, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests.

Mr Kuldeep Singh gave away the prizes to the winners. Romita was awarded the Giani Raghbir Singh medal and prize for standing first in D Pharma II year. Sudhir, Dupinder Singh and Kapil were also awarded prizes on their achievements. Dr S.S.Luthra proposed a vote of thanks and Ms Shikha Sehajpal conducted the workshop.

Fancy dress contest

Ludhiana, April 23
Senior students of GMT Senior Secondary Public school held an inter-house fancy dress competition. The chief guest was Dr H. S. Sidhu, Principal of GMT college of Education, while Mr Kashmir Singh Thind, Director of the institute, was the guest of honour.

The Principal of the school, Ms Poonam Sidhu, spoke about the importance of co-curricular activities and how a child should channelise his energy in the positive direction.

Patel House bagged the first position followed by Tagore and Bhagat.

Annual function

The annual prize distribution function was organised at Baba Isher Singh (N) Senior Secondary School here on Saturday. Mr Harbhajan Singh of Nanaksar Kalera presided.

meritorious students were given prizes. Those excelling in co-curricular activities were also awarded. The Principal, Ms Anita Kundra, read out the annual report highlighting the achievements of the students.

Havan organised

A havan was held at Gupta Model High School here today to mark the foundation stone laying of a complex. The school promoters informed the gathering, particularly parents, that in order to give the latest facilities to students, an exhaustive infrastructure would be provided.

The new school infrastructure is expected to be completed in time for the 2007-2008 session.

400 donate blood

As many as 400 persons donated blood at a camp organised by the Sant Nirankari Mandal at Satsang Bhavan here today. The blood was given to blood banks at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, the Civil Hospital, the District Red Cross Society and Dr B.L. Kapoor Memorial Hospital here.

Inaugurating the camp, Mr Rakesh Pandey, Minister of State for Science and Technology, lauded the initiative taken by the Sant Nirankari Mandal for the welfare of suffering humanity. He observed that through such selfless activities, followers of the mandal were paying real tributes to Baba Gurbachan Singh, the founder of the body.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr H.S. Chawla, zonal in charge of the mandal, said Baba Gurbachan Singh, the founder of the mission, was a great believer in the voluntary blood donation movement. He claimed that the mandal had achieved the distinction of being the front runner in blood donation in the whole country and the Ludhiana unit had organised its third such camp where blood was collected for needy and critically ill patients.

Meanwhile, nearly 700 patients were examined at a free medical camp organised by the Ludhiana Sewa Sangh at Guru Ram Das Hospital in Field Ganj Kucha No. 11 here today. A team of doctors, led by Dr Avtar Singh Chhabra and Dr S.K. Chhabra, conducted the medical check-up and rendered follow-up advice.

Laboratory tests like blood sugar and haemoglobin level were also performed during the camp and the patients were given medicines free of cost. According to Mr S.L. Gupta, president, and Mr Deepak Gupta, vice-president of the sangh, TB patients, diagnosed during the camp, would be provided treatment free of cost.
