30 pc of Indians suffer from coronary ailments

Chandigarh, April 22
Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, today organised its Alumni Association meeting at its college premises which was attended by more than 300 doctors from the country and abroad, a press release said here.

Dr Ritu Sareen, DMRE (Himachal Pradesh), inaugurated the meeting. The IGMC website igmcalumni.org was also launched on the occasion.

Prof Subhash Verma, president of the association, said the membership figures had crossed 400. Dr T.S.Mahant and Dr Manuj Wadhwa, Fortis (Mohali), were special invitees at the function.

Dr Mahant, executive director of the Fortis, spoke on the recent advances in the cardiac surgery. He said approximately 30 per cent of Indians suffered from coronary ailments and the percentage was much higher in North India.

He also stated that cardiac abnormalities were one of the leading causes of infant mortality.

Chaitanya wins skating championship

Chaitanya Handa emerged winner in the under-4 (boys), while Kashish won among girls between (4 to 6 years) on the opening day of St Xavier’s Rollar Skating Carnival held at the Skating Rink, Sector 10, here, today. As many as 250 skaters from Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana are taking part under different age groups in this two-day skating meet.

The results are as follows:

Boys: under- 4 years: Chaitanya Handa 1, Darshan 2, Harkarman Singh 3; 4-6 years: Angad 1, Kartik 2, Prayag 3; 6-8 years: Ankur 1, Gurbir 2, Shubhkaran 3; 8-10 years: Akshay 1, Sahil 2, Layanay 3; 10-12 years: Dhruv 1, Sidhant and Anshul 2, Harmandeep 3; 12-14 years: Rahul 1, Maninder 2; Above 14 years: Navdeep 1, Ashu 2, Shreshth 3.

Girls: under 4 years: Ananya Gupta 1, Jiya 2; 4-6 years: Kashish; 6-8 years: Srijana 1, Tammana 2, Karon George 3; 8-10 years: Apoorva 1, Darshwinder 2, Ramandeep 3; 10-12 years: Naina 1, Abha 2, Aditi 3; 12-14 years: Samridhi 1, Pawandeep 2;

Above 14 years: Preeti.

Chandigarh team emerged winner on the basis of first innings lead in the last league match of the Sushil Bali Trophy held at DAV Senior Secondary School grounds here, today.

Starting their innings from 13 for 1 in 12 overs, Mohali team were all out at 121 runs in 73.4 overs on the 2nd day’s play today.
