City doctor gets Hahnemann Award

Chandigarh, April 14
Dr Randeep Nanda, faculty member of the Homoeopathic Medical College, Sector 26, Chandigarh was awarded the International Hahnemann Award 2006 by the International Homoeopathic Medical Foundation at a function held at Calcutta on Sunday.

The award was presented by Dr Rodrigo Carazo Odio, former President of Costa Rica at a function held to commemorate the 252nd birthday of Dr Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy.

Dr Nanda was also awarded the honorary degree of PhD by the New Age International University, Seborga, Italy, in recognition of a paper presented by him on the topic of treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by homoeopathic medicines.

Rajasthan team wins table soccer title

Chandigarh, April 14
The three-day All-India Open Table Soccer Championship started at Saffron City School, Fatehgarh Sahib, today. It is being organised by the Table Soccer Federation of India.

According to a press note of the association president, Mr Balwinder Johal, the Rajasthan team comprising Raj Lakshami and Probhvinder won the gold in the u-14 girls’ double. The silver was won by Trusha Shah and Jany Kothari of Gujarat.

Other gold winning teams are: boys (u-12 doubles); Suhanshu and Sahil Bhutta of DAV Public School, Nawanshahr; and Jashanpreet and Mohit of Saffron City School; u-14: Abhi Garg and Chananand of Vasant Valley Public School; and u-17: Sumit and Arvind from Haryana.

Girls’ doubles: u-14: Pawandeep and Deepika of Dikshant International School; u-17: Ravinder Johal and Meenakshi from Chandigarh; u-10: Jhanvi Chawla and Bhanvi Chawla DAV Public School, Nawanshahr; u-19: Jyoti and Jyoti Pannu from Chandigarh; and u-12: Chanpreet Singh from Vasant Valley Public School.

MC to auction hotel site in Sec 35

Chandigarh, April 14
The Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh (MCC), has proposed to auction a hotel site measuring 2.62 acre in Sector 35. The authorities will finalise the reserve price tomorrow and after that the matter will be discussed at the next MCC meeting. Disclosing this here today a spokesman for the MCC said earlier the hotel site falling in the sector could not be auctioned due to unviable terms and conditions. Afore which, the Chandigarh Administration had amended certain terms and conditions to make it viable for the promoters of the hotel, which was transferred to the MCC on April 10.

With these amendments the hotel site would have more amended features like FAR increased to 1.75, height of the building shall be 74’-3” with not more than six storeys, roof top rain harvesting system etc. — TNS
