Residents protest against
non-availability of medicines
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 8
Claiming non-availability of medicines at the dispensary in Dadu Majra, members of the Dadu Majra Residents Welfare Association staged a protest outside the dispensary premises, here today.

The general secretary of the association, Mr Narinder Chaudhary, maintained that many colony residents were suffering from gastrointestinal infections and basic medicines and rehydrating salts were not available to patients.

"The past two days have been bad with regard to non-availability of medicines. We approached the dispensary in charge, Dr Anjali Gupta, who was not willing to oblige. She casually remarked that the ORS solution for dysentery was available at the nearby chemist shop and there was no reason to raise a hue and cry about it," he maintained.

Stating that the dispensary did not have adequate medicine stocks since the past fortnight, Mr Chaudhary said the residents had been complaining about the problem.

Raising slogans against the dispensary in charge, he along with other residents, sought her transfer, adding that she had been posted at the dispensary for over eight years. "We will approach the Director, Health Services, and take up the matter," he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Gupta, said there was no shortage of medicines at the dispensary and that Mr Chaudhary was blowing the matter out of proportion. "I was checking a patient when he came to the dispensary and asked for medicines. I told him to wait for a while since the stock had to be replenished at the counter and the keys were with me. He just refused to wait, and gathered a few colony residents and began his protest. I don't understand what his motivation was," she explained.

The Director, Health Services, Dr Inderjeet Kaur Walia, said she had no intimation of any protest held for non-availability of medicines and stated that there was ample stock available with them.
