Panel formed for ’84 riot cases 
Ludhiana, March 21
Office- bearers of the (84) Danga Peerit Welfare Board have demanded a 15-day extension in the deadline of applications for relief. They raised this issue during their meeting with Mr. Surinder Dawar, Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor, in the secretariat committee room here.The leaders discussed the issue with Mr. Anurag Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana .

Octogenarian’s 30-year battle for land
Ludhiana, March 21
He has been fighting a 30-year-old legal battle for the possession of land worth Rs 3 cr belonging to him in Dad village.As if his fight was not enough, another piece of land belonging to 86-year-old retired Headmaster Darbara Singh was encroached upon recently by a villager. Repeated requests to the Sadar police to get the land evicted have failed to bear fruits.
Tired of running from pillar to post, Darbara Singh moved a local court, which granted status quo following his petition.

Seven charged with threatening MP’s driver

The Sudhar police has booked at least seven persons under Sections 323, 342, 365, 382 384, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.

The Punjab Police Dog Breeding -cum-Training Centre, Police Academy Phillaur, today adopted a unique way of getting its demand heard by sending a charter of demands to the chief guest Finance Minister Surinder Singla through a trained German shepherd dog.

Suicide bid: girl disappears
Ludhiana, March 21
A 17-year-old girl, Amandeep Kaur, who had tried to commit suicide outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police yesterday, mysteriously disappeared from the Civil Hospital here today. She had allegedly tried to run away last night also.

Oppn councillors protest against minister Jagjit Singh’s visit
Ludhiana, March 21
Fuming over the controversial budget session of Municipal Corporation’s General House, the Akali and BJP councillors protested against the visit of Local Bodies Minister, Ch Jagjit Singh, here today. Led by Mr Parvin Bansal, a BJP leader and Mr Harbhajan Dang, an Akali leader, a number of councillors and other persons took out a protest march, carrying black flags, outside the Circuit House, where the Local Bodies Minister had to hand over a draft worth Rs 12 crore to local Municipal Corporation authorities.

3 members of gang of thieves nabbed
Ludhiana, March 21
The CIA-II wing of the city police today announced the arrest of three members of allegedly a gang of thieves who had stolen vehicles, mobile phones and household goods from several parts of the city recently.

A seminar on personality development was organised at Everest Playway and Nursery School, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Park, here today. Schoolchildren came dressed up in colourful attires and performed dance, skit, advertisements, etc. They also narrated short stories.
