Govt move condemned: The Punjab unit of the Indian Medical Association has condemned the state government's move to privatise government dispensaries according to which qualified doctors would be selected by zila parishads. Dr R.C. Garg, president of the state unit of the IMA described the move as a cruel joke on the medical profession.

Govt’s decision condemned: The Lok Bhalai Party (LBP)’s President, Mr Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, and the General Secretary, Mr Malwinder Singh, in a statement here condemned the government’s decision to “give away the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, into private hands”. Taking the Congress and the Akali parties to task, Mr Ramuwalia said that thousands of workers feared of becoming unemployed after the implementation of the decision, as a private sector enterprise would only give 5 per cent of its profit to the workers.
Bonus: Bonus of Rs 4 lakh was distributed among the milk producers associated with the Niametpur Milk Producers’ Cooperative Society at Niametpur on Monday. Addressing the milk producers from Niametpur, Mr Parkash Singh Nawanshahar, Parliamentary Secretary (Cooperation), Punjab, who was the chief guest and who distributed bonus among milk producers, exhorted farmers to adopt dairy farming, saying it was a profitable business.

Cheques: The local MLA and the Chairman of Punjab Agro Foods Limited, Mr Joginder Singh Mann, gave away cheques worth Rs 88.75 lakh to various panchayats in Phagwara sub-division at a function held at the local Rest House on Sunday.

Cheques distributed: Under the Punjab Punar Nirman Scheme cheques worth Rs 2.50 crore were distributed for the development of Sangrur town and more than 70 villages here on Sunday. Two cheques worth Rs 1.46 crore were received by Mr Parminder Bajaj, acting president of the local Municipal Council, while more than 70 cheques, worth more than Rs 1 crore, were received by representatives of more than 70 village panchayats.

Women's Lok Adalat: As many as 25 out of 106 cases were settled at a special Women's Lok Adalat held under the presidentship of the District and Sessions Judge-cum-chairman of the District Legal Services Authority Mr R. C. Bansal, here on
Saturday. These included 4 civil, 5 criminal and 14 summary trial cases as well as one case of the Hindu Marriage Act.
Vocational guidance: The District Employment Office will organise four vocational guidance camps at Cheeta Doongra on March 14, Jai Singhpur Khera on March 21, Daroli on March 22 and Siha on March 29. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Mahender Kumar, said the camps would motivate youths to go in for self enterprises as scope for
