Survey operations carried out by income tax officials on two business premises of a leading hosiery manufacturer here yesterday led to the surrender of concealed income of Rs 1.78 crore.

Factory worker found murdered
Ludhiana, March 3
A 35-year-old watchman of a factory was allegedly robbed of thousands of rupees and murdered by unidentified persons here last midnight. Sources said three jackets of police cops and a handcuff was found from the scene of the crime. The police denied the same.

Major power cut today
Ludhiana, March 3
City residents are in for a tough time as power will remain suspended in most areas from six to eight hours tomorrow. The cut, which is being imposed to carry out maintenance work, would affect residents in most areas between 9 am to 5 pm and in several areas between 9 am to 3 pm.

Johar gives grant to DBA
Ludhiana, March 3
The Punjab Education Minister, Mr Harnam Dass Johar, today handed over a cheque of Rs 2 lakh for library and maintenance of bar room. Mr Johar had announced a grant of Rs 2 lakh at the New Year function organised by the District Bar Association.

Unclaimed body of infant at DMCH
Ludhiana, March 3
An unclaimed body of an infant lies in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital here for the past five days. The one-day old male child was admitted to the emergency on February 26, where he was expired in a couple of hours later.

Change reimbursement rules: pensioners 
Ludhiana, March 3
Under the reimbursement rules, a pensioner suffering from a chronic disease is required to get a medical certificate from any government medical colleges, located in Patiala, Faridkot, Amritsar, PGI, Chandigarh, and AIIMS, Delhi, to claim the medical reimbursement.

Poultry farmers to target women

Production of eggs in the state has gone down by 40 per cent. The plummeting demand has hit poultry farmers so bad that even if the situation normalises now it will take them at least six months to stabilise financially.

Education Minister Harnam Das Johar has stated that all pending cases of the wards of deceased teachers employees of the Education Department for recruitment on compassionate grounds will be cleared by March-end.

7 unfair means cases registered
Ludhiana, March 3
Seven unfair means cases were registered during the annual examination for Class XII of the Punjab School Education Board that got underway yesterday. Out of the seven, four such cases were registered at Bhagwan Mahavir School, Raikot.

Ehsaas—2006, the seventh international inter-institutional literary-cum-cultural festival was held at the Punjab College of Technical Education here today. 10-year RI for possessing charas

The Special Judge, Mr B S Sodhi has sentenced Anurodh Kumar of Bihar to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years on the charges of possessing 3 kg of charas. The accused was also ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh.

Family planning operations performed
Ludhiana, March 3
As many as 55 tubectomy and 20 non-scalpel vasectomy operations were performed at two different family welfare camps organised at Lifeline Hospital and Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital here today. The camps were closely coordinated by medical professionals from the Civil Hospital and the Health Department.
