Farmers reluctant to diversify

Agricultural scientists’ and economists’ strong argument for diversification apart, farmers remain reluctant to exercise other options than the routine wheat and paddy crop rotation. The reasons are obvious these crops have an assured market.

Farm women’s day out

As homemakers and partners in decision-making at home, it was as much a day out for farm women as for farmers, who made a beeline to a two-day kisan mela that concluded on the PAU campus here today.

Poultry farmers to target women
Ludhiana, March 3
Production of eggs in the state has gone down by 40 per cent. The plummeting demand has hit poultry farmers so bad that even if the situation normalises now it will take them at least six months to stabilise financially.
Jobs on compassion by March-end

Education Minister Harnam Das Johar has stated that all pending cases of the wards of deceased teachers employees of the Education Department for recruitment on compassionate grounds will be cleared by March-end.
7 unfair means cases registered
Ludhiana, March 3
Seven unfair means cases were registered during the annual examination for Class XII of the Punjab School Education Board that got underway yesterday.
Out of the seven, four such cases were registered at Bhagwan Mahavir School,
Raikot.
Move to scrap NRI-sponsored seats welcomed

Workshop held at CMCH

here organised a one-day workshop on 'Ageing - A Holistic Approach'. The aim of the workshop was to update the knowledge of healthcare providers so as to deliver quality care based on the holistic approach.

Literary-cum-cultural Ehsaas
Ludhiana, March 3
Ehsaas—2006, the seventh international inter-institutional literary-cum-cultural festival was held at the Punjab College of Technical Education here today.
Five teams from Pakistan and 23 national teams participated in the festival. Dr S. K. Salwan, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, was the chief guest.

10-year RI for possessing charas
Ludhiana, March 3
The Special Judge, Mr B S Sodhi has sentenced Anurodh Kumar of Bihar to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years on the charges of possessing 3 kg of charas. The accused was also ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh.
