Convincing win for Advisers XI Chandigarh, February 12 The Press Club team won the toss and asked Advisers XI to bat. The Administration put on 132 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Kwatra was the highest scorer with 57 runs. Chasing the target of 133, the Press Club was bundled out for just 90 runs. “Man of the match” award was given to Kwatra, while the best fielder and best bowler titles were given to Ramesh Handa and Surinder Baijee of the Press Club, respectively. Dr G.S. Sandhu of the Adviser’s XI won the Best Batsman award. Earlier, the chief guest, Mr Lalit Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh, welcomed Ms Samuel Banerjee, wife of late Samuel Banerjee on the occasion. He gave away the winners trophy to P.S.Aujla, captain of Advisers XI, and the Runners-up award to Ajay Banerjee, the club skipper. |
Sports events mark opening of Nabotsav Chandigarh, February 12 This is the five-day All India annual sports and cultural meet ‘Nabotsav’ event being conducted by NABARD Employees’ Sports and Recreation Club, Chandigarh. It is the first such event organised by NABARD in the city at various centres and the 10 th Nabotsav at the national level in which about 350 delegates from 32 NABARD centres from across the country are participating. Cricket: A fine performance by Vikas Sathe of Mumbai, who took six wickets, enabled Mumbai to win by 9 wickets against West Zone in a cricket match played
on the PU campus during the NABARD meet. The West Zone team were bundled out for 53 runs only. Mumbai team achieved the target for the loss of one wicket only. In another match, the East Zone team registered a win by eight wickets against the North Zone team. North Zone was all out for 114 runs only. East Zone made 115 runs for the loss of two wickets. Gautam went home with the man of match title. Table Tennis: In the quarterfinal rounds of table tennis, Gujarat thrashed Tamil Nadu 3-0 in a onesided tie held at the TT Hall, Sector 42. DAV school lift Parle Cup Chandigarh, February 12 DAV School, Chandigarh won the toss and elected to field first. Budhaldal Public School managed to score only 96 runs in 38 overs. Jaspreet and Preet Kamal were the only two batsmen who displayed some resistance scoring 26 and 23 runs, respectively. Abhishek of DAV took 5 wickets for 15 runs in 10 overs. DAV Chandigarh achieved the target at the loss of one wicket in just 19.2 overs. Gaurav Chhabra was not out at 56 and Arjit Gupta scored 30 runs. Amar Ujala team win Chandigarh, February 12 Batting first after winning the toss, Amar Ujala scored 206 for 5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Openers Amit Sharma (0) Satish Kumar (8) lost their wickets early. However, Chandrasekhar steadied the innings and hit a swashbuckling 81 off just 68 balls. Bikram Pathaniya with 37 and Praveen Antal with 15 made useful contributions. Indian Express gave a valiant fightback with Jaipal Singh scoring 21 runs off 16 balls and Raghav Ohri 25 runs off 22 balls but it was man-of-the-match Varinder Bhatia who got the spectators cheering with his wide array of shots. He cut, pulled and drove the hapless Amar Ujala bowlers all over the ground and hit 17 fours and 2 towering sixes in his marathon 113 run-knock. Archery championship Chandigarh, February 12 Jagandeep Kaur will be the captain of the women’s squad. Announcing the team, the Chandigarh Archery Association president Satya Pal Jain said Chandigarh would compete in both the women’s and men’s competitions.
