Punjab beat Delhi in U-17 hockey

Chandigarh, February 7
Punjab beat New Delhi 3-2 during the 51st National School Games in the U-17 hockey meet (boys and girls) at Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, today.

The results are: Boys: Rajasthan b Himachal Pradesh 4-1; Punjab b Delhi 3-2; Haryana b A.P. 8-0; M.P. draw Jharkhand 4-4; Karnataka b I.P.S.C. 4-1; Maharashtra b Kerala 3-0; U.P. b Tamil Nadu 9-0; Rajasthan b A.P. 7-1; Chhattisgarh b M.P. 3-1; Jharkhand b I.P.S.C. 7-1; and Chandigarh b Haryana 12-1.

Girls: Mizoram draw A.P. 2-2; Chandigarh b Uttaranchal 15-0; Tamil Nadu b Delhi 3-0; Himachal b Chhattisgarh 3-1; U.P. b Karnataka 8-1; Haryana b Jharkhand 5-2; Rajasthan b Mizoram 3-2; Kerala b Maharashtra 6-0; Punjab b I.P.S.C. 5-0; M.P. draw Delhi 3-3; Chhattisgarh b Tamil Nadu 3-1; Uttranchal b A.P. 3-0; and Jharkhand b Karantaka 11-0.

Football championship

Sumandeep Kaur of Dev Samaj College, Sector 45, will lead the Chandigarh women football team in the forthcoming 14 th Senior Women’s National Football Championship to be held at Bhilai (Chhatisgarh) from February 10.

The other members of the team are Anjana Thakur, Pooja, Rupinder Kaur, Anju Rana, Manisha, Parminder Kaur, Jyoti, Prabhjot, Rajni, Ayushi, Ritu Gupta, Anjana Dogra, Parveen, Poonam Deol, Kamlesh, Nisha, Shikha and Manmeet.

The team will leave for Bhilai tomorrow 7 and will take on Tamil Nadu on February 11.

Badminton tourney

Panchkula: Assam beat Maharashtra 3-0 in a one-sided affair tie on the inaugural day of 20 th All-India Postal Badminton Tournament held at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex, Sector 3, here, today.

Dr U.S. Raghavan, Secretary, Department of Posts, Government of India, inaugurated the meet in which as many as 16 teams of the Postal Department are participating. Children of Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula, presented a cultural programme on the occasion.

The results: Assam b Himachal Pradesh 3-0 Maharashtra b Gujarat 3-1 Rajasthan b Punjab 3-2.

Annual sports day at KV-2

Chandigarh, February 7
Deepak, a student of Class 4A, and Pooja, a student of Class 4-B, won first position in balancing ball event in boys and girls categories, respectively, at the annual sports day of Kendriya Vidyalaya No2, 3 BRD, Air Force Station, here, today. Students of Class 1-C emerged winners in the tunnel race event.

Air Cmdre. R.K. Srivastava, AOC, 3 BRD, AFS and Chairman, VMC, KV2, 3BRD was the chief guest on the occasion.

After unfurling the flag, several innovative sports events like tunnel race, relay race, collecting ball, balancing ball, traffic drill and dressing up race were organised.

Adding a dash of colour and adventure on the field was the dumbbell show which had children dressed as black commandos.

Later, Ms Reena Srivastava, President, AFWWA (L), gave away the prizes to the winners.

The results of various events were as follows: Balancing ball: Boys: Deepak (4-A) 1, Sahil (4-B) 2; Girls: Pooja (4-B) 1, Rohin (4-A) 2; Dressing up Race: Boys: Prince Faizan (3-B) 1, Sheikh Iqbal (3-B) 2; Girls: Amandeep (3-B) 1, Ashmita Pawar (3-C) 2.

Collecting balls: Boys: Parth (2- B)1, Mohit (2-A) 2; Girls: Jamboy (2-A) 1, Shuchi (2-A) 2; Relay Race: Boys: Class 5-B 1, Class 5-C 2; Girls: Class 5-B 1, Class 5-C 2.

Tunnel Race: Class 1-C.

Harman Joy Singh stood first in the above 16 shot put event during the ongoing Annual Athletics Meet of Yadvindra Public School at its premises here today.

The results are as follows:

Boys: Above-16: Shot put- Harman Joy Singh 1, Abhishek Gagneja 2, Sumit Verma 3. High jump- Harshdeep Singh 1 , Inderpreet Singh 2, Vishvajeet 3. 1500 metres: Prashant Dogra 1, Harshdeep S.Guron 2, Abhishek Ganeja 3.

Panjab University thrashed Vikram University, Ujjain, in a one-sided affair 10-0 during the All-India inter-university softball championship for men at PU grounds, here, today.

The main contributors from the winning side were Sanjay Dulta(2) and Baljeet Singh (2).

Other results: Dr Marathwada b Sholapur University, Sholapur 4-3. North -Gujarat b RGPV, Bhopal 10-2 Shivaji University b Mumbai 5-2 Guru Nanak Dev University b Bhartiyar University 12-0.
