Amandeep, Jaspreet emerge winners

Amandeep of Sunam and Jaspreet Kaur of Fauzgarh emerged as the fastest runners and Khattan village team stole limelight in open kabbadi at the annual rural sports fair organised by the Kanganwal Sports Club at the village stadium. The fair that concluded yesterday was inaugurated by Baba Khiali Nath while Dr Maghar Singh Kalia, Circle Education Officer, Nabha, was the chief guest.

According to Jagtaran Singh, general secretary of the club, more than 50 kabbadi players and 300 athletes participated in the meet. Various speakers, including Dr Kalia, Bhupinder Singh, president, and Gurjant Singh, SVP, called upon the youth of the area to adopt sports as a habit. Mr Razia Sultana announced grants for the development of the village.

In athletics, Amandeep Singh of Sunam and Jaspreet Kaur of Faizgarh claimed first positions in 100 m race and Raj Kumar of Jalandhar and Harpreet Kaur of Patiala retained the second positions in these events. Amandeep, Jaspreet Beant Singh of Gholian Khurad, Raman Sharma, Gurjit Kaur Virk, Harpreet Kaur, Guriqbal Kaur, Jalandhar, Naib Singh of Ludhiana, Aspinder Singh of Maherna Kalan, Jaswinder Kaur of Ludhiana, Raspinder Kaur Jhaner, Samidha of Kanganwal, Lakhwinder Singh of Jhaner and Kamaljit Kaur Kanganwal stood winners in various events.

The open kabaddi championship was won by Khatan team by defeating Jhaner village.The veterans of Ludhiana won the first position by dragging those of Moga to the second position. Kakrala, Kup Kalan , and Uksi teams won the first prizes in 62, 57, 52, and 47 kg weight categories. Ballewal, Dhanaula, Kuthala and Bhudan stood runners-up in these categories.
