The CBI is investigating the murder of journalist Chhatrapati and Ranjit Singh of Kurukshetra as also the allegation that women inmates at the Dera are being sexually exploited. While accepting the report, the Bench asked the CBI counsel as to how confidential the contents of the status report were. After being told by the counsel that the report had come directly from the CBI headquarters in New Delhi, the court directed the Registrar of the High Court to keep the report in safe custody till the next date of hearing. The Bench also began the hearing on the application filed by Anshul Chhatrapati, son of the slain journalist. In his application, Anshul has prayed for action against the Dera management for its alleged attempts to interfere with the administration of justice and the ongoing CBI probe. He claimed that the same was highlighted by protest demonstrations organised by the Dera followers, including a massive one in Chandigarh sometime back. Stating that his father was shot at by two assailants on October 24, 2002, and he later died at Apollo Hospital, Delhi, the application added that one of the assailants was nabbed at the spot and another the next day from near the Dera . Saying that subsequent events had clearly shown the involvement of the Dera management in the crime, Anshul stated that he had sought a CBI investigation only after the Haryana Police subverted and hijacked the entire investigation in order to create an escape route for the Dera head. After the hearing, the Bench issued notice to the CBI and the Haryana Government for January 27. |
