Discussion on Vivekananda’s ideals

A panel discussion was organised by the Centre for Vivekananda Studies on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

Dr Sudhir Kumar of the Department of Evening Studies highlighted the relevance of Swami Vivekananda.

Prof A.C. Julka of the Department of Economics said globalisation was nothing but culture of consumerism. The ideals of Vivekananda must be interpreted in the light of its idealism towards cosmopolitan culture and pan humanity.

Dr Radhey Shyam Sharma, said there was need to create an egalitarian society where caste, class, gender and market based inequalities could be eliminated.

Excellent Coaching Centre, Chandigarh, organised a special lecture on the life of Swami Vivekananda.

Motivating students for simple living and high thinking, Pro S.C. Gupta, Director, highlighted the teachings of Vivekananda.

Prof Vipin Kaushal said his teachings had more relevance in the present time.

Students also spoke on the life of Vivekananda.

A declamation contest was also organised at Government College, Sector 11. The winners of the declamation contest are Gaurav 1, Vivek 2 and Sanket 3.

The NSS units of Government College, Sector 46, had an NSS camp to inculcate dignity of labour among the youth. Mr MV Sharma, Vice-Principal, inaugurated the camp and spoke on the philosophy of Vivekananda.

A seminar on the role of youth in nation development was organised by Swami Vivekananda Group of Institutes near Banur. The CEO of the institute, Mr Manmohan Garg, urged the students to participate in the development of society.

The IS Dev Samaj Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 21, celebrated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The ABVP also organised a declamation contest in this regard.

Five teachers honoured

Chandigarh, January 12
As part of the ongoing “Campaign for Peace-City Chandigarh”, Srijan-Peace Education Centre of Yuvsatta, Dev Samaj College of Education and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti today organised a lecture by Mr Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and director of the MK Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence, USA, at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36.

Mr Arun Gandhi honoured five college/schoolteachers of the city. These included Dr ML Gupta from Punjab Engineering College, Prof Ashok Kumar from DAV College, Dr Jyoti Khanna of Dev Samaj College of Education, Mr Amarjit Singh of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 19, and Ms Avinder Kaur of St Soldier International School. The teachers were awarded with commendation certificates.

The Dr K.B.S. Dhillon Memorial Shantidoot Puraskar carrying acommedation certificate, a shawl and a Rs 51,00 was awarded to Mr Karan Singh Jaglan, Principal, Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33.

Dr Satinder Dhillon, Principal, Dev Samaj College of Education, also spoke on the occasion.

Mr Gandhi, while addressing the gathering comprising educationists and students said to be a Punjabi, Gujarati or Haryanavi was not important as we are inherently Indian. He added that one has to transform his/her ownself to follow the path of non-violence.
