Teachers asked to boycott course

Panchkula, January 5
The Haryana Rajkiya Adhyapak Sangh has called upon teachers to boycott the ongoing refresher course to press their demand for privilege leave in lieu of work or training during the holidays, said Laik Singh, secretary of the sangh, while talking to mediapersons here today.

They alleged that for the past over five years, the government had been quiet on special pay during holidays or privilege leave or any other leave in lieu of such trainings held during holidays.

They also pointed out that books under the programme never reached in time and many books of middle classes were distributed in December only where as the board exams were scheduled to start from February 16. The District Education Officer, Ms Kanta Malik, expressed ignorance of the move of the teachers to boycott the programme despite assurance by the department.

Indians win gold, silver in chess

Chandigarh, January 5
The Indian men Chess team have bagged gold medal in the 14th Asian Men Team Chess Championship and silver medal in the 4th Asian Women Chess which concluded at Esfahan, Iran, on December 28.

Dr Vipnesh Bhardwaj of Chandigarh who was coach and Chief De mission of the Indian team, said it was for the first time that India gave a splendid performance in the Asian Chess meet. Dr Bhardwaj said in men section six Asian countries took part, while in women, it were four.

The Indian team comprised (men) Sasikiran Krishnan, Surya Shekhar, Sandipan, Abhijit Kunte and Kidambi Sundarajan (women) Nisha Mohota, Swathi Ghate, Mary Ann Gomes and Anupama Gokhale.

Adidas unveils team jerseys

Chandigarh, January 5
After cricket the big companies are now turning to India’s national game hockey to make it popular and its players financially sound. Many multinational companies have came forward to sponsor the ongoing month-long second edition of Premier Hockey League being played at Hockey Stadium, Sector 42, started here today.

Adidas India Private Ltd. kick-started the PHL today by being the official kit sponsors and official licensed product for the league. On this occasion, Adidas also unveiled jerseys for all 10 PHL teams at its exclusive store, Sector 17, here today.

The jerseys were launched by the five players of the tier 1 teams- Pakistani players Imran Khan (Chandigarh Dynamos), Adnan Zakir( Maratha Warriors), Salman Akbar (Hyderabad Sultans) along with Indian players Adam Sinclair and V Raja , both representing Chennai Veerans.

Talking to the mediapersons Mr Sriram Darbha, Brand Manager, adidas India Pvt. Ltd. said “Being the ‘official Kit Sponsor’ for PHL, adidas will provide merchandise which include the entire playing, training and travel kit comprising playing jerseys and shorts, training gear, kit bags, track-suits, wrist bands, travel trousers, shirts and caps.”

Turf Pro shoes specially designed for field hockey players were also launched on the occasion.
