United Cricket Club enter quarterfinals

Ludhiana, January 3
The United Cricket Club recorded an 11-run win over the Unique Club to advance into the last eight stage of the inaugural edition of the Twenty-Twenty Ludhiana District Cricket Championship being held here on the Bharat Box Factory ground, Tajpur Road.

Batting first, the United Cricket Club scored 128 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The main scorers were Palli and Raju who contributed 24 and 29 runs, respectively, while Sunny of the Unique Club grabbed three wickets for 25 runs. Abhi, Shallu and Ashu claimed one wicket each.

In reply, despite fine batting performances by Sunny (36) and Bunty (32), the Unique Club’s innings folded at 117 runs. Tejinder Singh of the United Club bowled exceedingly well to capture four wickets for 16 runs while Vicky scalped two victims for 23 runs.

In another match, the Rana Club defeated the Oshan Club by six wickets. The Oshan Club, batting first, made 113 runs with Harpal and Gurjeet making 20 runs each. For the Rana Club, Sarabjit Singh was the most successful bowler taking three wickets for 21 runs while Nikka and Sanjay took two wickets each.

The Rana Club surpassed the Oshan Club’s total after losing just four wickets in the 17th over. The architects of the Rana Club’s win were Jassi and Nikka who contributed 42 and 29 runs, respectively.

In the third match, the Ramgarhia Club scored a convincing 83-run victory against GTB College, Doraha. The Ramgarhia Club set a target of 164 runs for win in which Goldy and Bawa chipped in with 28 and 29 runs, respectively, while Rinku and Channa made 14 runs each.

Chasing the target, GTB College could muster only 80 runs. Only Tinku (22) and Subhash (15) could reach the double figures. For the Ramgarhia Club, Goldy was the pick of bowlers taking five wickets for 19 runs.

In the last match of the day, the BBF XI thrashed the Sports Cricket Club by 10 wickets. The Sports Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 117 runs with Bhuvnesh topscoring with 44 runs, followed by Nishu and Davinder who made 38 and 15 runs, respectively. The BBF XI achieved the target through the opening pair of Karan Goel and Ashish Vinayak who contributed 58 and 52 runs, respectively, and remained unconquered.

Cycling meet on Jan 5

Ludhiana, January 3
The Ludhiana District Cycling Association (LDCA) will organise the Ludhiana District Open Cycling Championship here at the Punjab Agricultural University velodrome on January 5.

According to Mr Surinder Pal Singh, president, LDCA, during this meet, competitions in subjunior (under 16) and junior sections (under18) as well as in the senior section will be conducted.

The championship is being revived after a long time to attract the young generation towards this game which is the second most popular sport after football in the world. The position holders will be given prizes by the LDCA, Mr Singh said.
