Cold wave unabated in Punjab

Cold wave continued to sweep Punjab with the mercury plumetting to 2°C, four degrees below normal, in Amritsar but abated in Haryana today.
People groaned under cold wave conditions in Punjab as the minimum temperature stayed one to four degrees below normal at several places in the region. Cold wave conditions are likely to continue for the next two days in the state where low temperature warning has been issued by the Metrological Department. Ground frost may occur at isolated places in Punjab during the next two nights. The temperature fell three degrees below normal in Ludhiana and Patiala, recording 4.4°C and 4.8°C, respectively. Even as the cold wave abated in Haryana, Ambala continued to be the coldest place in the state, recording 4.7°C, three degrees below normal, followed by Karnal registering 5.9°C, three degrees below normal. Cold wave conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its surrounding areas with the city registering 6.4°C, two degrees below normal. A severe cold wave lambasted Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, where the temperature dropped to =4.4°C, two degrees below normal. Jammu, the summer capital of the state, also reeled under cold conditions with the mercury dipping to 8.6°C, one degree below normal. The temperature also stayed low in Delhi, recording 6.6°C, two degrees below normal. Parts of Himachal Pradesh were also under the impact of the cold wave. Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded the minimum at 0.3°C, two degrees below normal. Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded 1.1°C. However, Shimla reported 5.8°C, one degree above normal.
