Teachers’ body sets up panel

Chandigarh, December 8
At a recently held meeting of the Government Teachers Union (GTU), the members discussed the various pending demands of the teachers and unanimously decided to constitute an action committee to take immediate steps in this direction.

The 11-member action committee is headed by Dr Vinod Sharma, convener, and Mr Jit Singh Somal, co-convener.

The committee is also soon expected to meet the Education Secretary to discuss various demands, including the promotion of all UT cadre teachers, release of updated, year-wise seniority list and review of the transfer policy.

In addition to this, the union has also been demanding the reversion of all deputationists, abolishment of the contract system and appointment of the State Institute of Education Director from the school cadre.

Meanwhile, the general body meeting of the GTU will be held tomorrow at 4 pm near the Jama Masjid ground.

School function: The annual prize distribution function was held at SD High School (Chakwal) today. School principal Lov Kumar Bansal said Prof Tara Chand, president SD Sabha Ambala Cantonment was the chief guest. He said that a cultural programme was presented by the students.

Cyber cafe in GMCH

Chandigarh, December 8
A cyber cafe was inaugurated by Prof H.M. Swami, Director Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, here today. The ceremony was attended by Prof Atul Sachdev, HOD IT Centre, Medical Superintendent, Dr J.K. Das and the Heads of Department of GMCH-32.

It is the first medical institution in the north India to have a cyber cafe for the use of students, residents and faculty members. To start with, it will remain open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
