HEALTH CAMP: A free bone mineral density test camp was organised by Meyers Organics Pvt Ltd (Mumbai) at the Guru Nanak Dev University health centre here on Tuesday. As many as 150 members of the staff, including the VC, participated.

ESTABLISHMENT DAY: The 45th Establishment Day of Punjab Home Guards and Civil Defence was celebrated with enthusiasm here on Tuesday. Mr Gurdip Singh, District Commandant, Home Guards, took the salute from Home Guard jawans at a special parade organised on the occasion.

An on-the-spot painting competition on environment and “Smoking, a subtle death” was organised at Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Dhahan Kaleran, on Tuesday. Sartaj Kaur, Savita, Savita and Ishavpreet excelled in the competitions.

AWWA FUNCTION: The Army Wives Welfare Association [AWWA] Gurj Division, Mamun, distributed clothes among the needy on Tuesday. Mrs Kiran Kharbanda, president, AWWA, handed over 1,500 sets of clothing to representatives of the Pathankot Vikas Manch, an NGO of the area.

PULSE POLIO: As many as 1.5 lakh children below 5 years age will be covered during special pulse polio drive on December 11, 12 and 13 in the district. For this, 595 teams had been constituted said the Additional Deputy Commissioner (development), Mr Parkash Singh, after holding a meeting with district medical officers here on Wednesday.

SUVIDHA CAMP: With a view of solving problems of villagers on the spot, the district administration has decided to organise suvidha camps in different villages. The first suvidha camp will be held at Lutheri village in Ropar on December 9. Besides the Deputy Commissioner, Mr H.I.S Garewal, officials from all departments including police, licensing department and others will attend the camp.

CONVOCATION: The eighth annual convocation of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET), Longowal, will be held at the SLIET campus on Thursday. Dr N.P. Singh, Acting Director of the SLIET, said 17 M. Tech and 218 B.E./B. Tech would be awarded degrees. Mr Swarn Singh Boparai, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, would be the chief guest.

Honoured: The International Napoleonic Society (INS) has conferred the honorary fellowship on Mr Amit Swami, president, Youngmen’s Association of India, in appreciation of his work rendered here to highlight certain aspects of the life of Napoleon Bonaparte through a series of lectures. The certificate of the fellowship was awarded to Mr Amit Swami by Mr Mahender Lal, Inspector-General of Police, Gurgaon Range.

Theft: Thieves broke into Mr Rakesh Dubey’s house in Sector 3 here and decamped with cash and ornaments worth about Rs 30,000 on Saturday night. Mr Dubey was away to Faridabad that day. The Model Town police has registered a case.

Car thieves held: The Rai police has arrested three students of the Government Institute of Engineering (Surgical) and recovered a stolen car from their possession. Giving this information, Mr Rajinder Singh, SP, said here on Wednesday that the arrested persons were identified as Howa Singh of Asawarpur and Narinder and Virender of Sewli village.

Motor cycle taken away: A youth, Jatinder of the Adarsh Nagar area, here was robbed of his motor cycle by a group of armed youths on the Sonepat-Dewru road on Tuesday night. According to police sources, the youth was also roughed up by the alleged robbers and when he became unconscious they drove away his motor cycle.

Body recovered: The Mohana police on Tuesday recovered the body of a man lying in the area of Salarpur Majra village. According to a report, the body was identified as that of Yaman (70), a resident of New Kabirpur village. The police has registered a case in this connection.
