Oppn does not press for voting on Volcker report
New Delhi, November 28
It took Finance Minister P. Chidambaram just half an hour of spirited defence of the government in the Lok Sabha this evening to take the wind out of the sails of the Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on the Volcker Committee report, which if voted in favour, would have tantamounted to no confidence in the government.

Chauhan elected leader, Uma walks out
Bhopal, November 28
Mr Shivraj Singh Chauhan was “unanimously” elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party here tonight after former Chief Minister Uma Bharati walked out along with 16 MLAs in protest against the procedure adopted by the party to elect the leader. The meeting was held at BJP office.

India had sought Pakistan’s help in rescuing BRO employee Maniappan Raman Kutty, who was abducted and killed by the Taliban, but was told by Islamabad that it had ceased to have any contacts with the Afghan militia, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
