MCM-36 women win football title
Chandigarh, November 21 The star performer for the MCM DAV Club was Jyotshna, who was goalkeeper in the tie-breaker. She thwarted the attempts of Stephen’s players Shikha, Harnoor and Meenakshi to convert their spot kicks in the tie-breaker after the teams had played a goal-less draw in the stipulated time. Only Manmeet of St Stephen could get past Jyotshna by kicking on the right corner. For the MCM DAV Club, Kuldeep Kaur, Diviya and Richa converted their spot kicks without any problem. St Stephen’s defender Manmeet remained alert and did not allow much liberty to the MCM DAV Club forwards. Goalkeeper Sunidhi of St Stephen’s Club-A, strikers Tanvi Bhargawa and Jasdeep, both of the MCM DAV Club, were voted the best players of the tournament. The president of the Chandigarh Football Association, Mr Ravinder Talwar, gave away the prizes and certificates to the players. |
St Kabir, Mount Carmel lads to clash in soccer tie
Chandigarh, November 21 Announcing the draw today, CFA secretary Rakesh Bakshi said four matches would be played on the inaugural day. The other matches billed for opening day are Tribune Model School-29 vs DAV Senior Secondary School-8 (10.30 a.m.); Ryan International-49 vs Government Model SSS-20 (11.30 a.m.) and Vivek High School-38 vs St Xavier’s-44 (12.30 p.m. ). CFA president Principal Ravinder Talwar said that 11 schools had staked their claims for the top honours and the teams have been dived into two groups. St Stephen’s School-45, Chandigarh Football Academy-42 and Shivalik Public School-41 have been given first-round byes. Two teams from each pool will move into the league. The final league matches will be played on November 26. Group A will consist of St Stephen’s-45, St Kabir School-26, Mount Carmel-47, Tribune Model School-29 and DAV Senior Secondary School-8. Strong contender State-run Football Academy-42, Ryans International-49, Govt Model-20, St Xavier’s-44, Vivek High School-38 and Shivalik Public School-41 will form Group B. |

St Kabir School clinch cricket trophy
Chandigarh, November 21 St Stephen’s won the toss and opted to bat first. Its batsmen could not face the medium pacers Sarabjot, Karandeep and Pranav Gupta. Gaurav Puri and Anurag played well to score 23 runs each. Jaspreet (22 n.o.) played some fine shots and took the team’s total to 115 in 25 overs. Karandeep and Vaibhav Gupta claimed two wickets each for 16 and 23 runs, respectively. Chasing a target of 116 for victory, St Kabir started badly having lost four wickets for 45 runs. However, Navi Bansal (48) and skipper Nipun Sodhi (37 n.o.) took control of the situation and guided their team to victory in the 21st over. Power units’ badminton meet begins
Chandigarh, November 21 In the matches played, NELPCO beat MOP 3-0, while NHPC beat REC 3-0. In other matches of the day, SJVNL defeated THDC 3-0. The teams taking part in the meet are: NTPC, Power Grid, GRID, NHPC, Ministry of Power,
THDC, NEEPCO, REC, DVC and hosts BBMB. Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Member Power, BBMB, Sharat C. Mahajan. The team selected will take part in the All-India Inter-Power Boards Badminton Tournament to be held at Sports Complex, Sector 3, Panchkula, from November 25. |

In love with ball badminton
Chandigarh, November 21 Chetan said though many of his friends asked him to play popular sport like basketball, cricket, he had truly fallen in love with ball badminton. Playing ball with racket in air is most fascinating for him and that is the reason why he loves this sport. He is hopeful of bringing glory to city in the National Ball Badminton meet to be held in December. |
Yoga gold for Manish
Chandigarh, November 21 Manish had the distinction of being the state Yoga champion since 2000. He was adjudged the best ‘yogi’ at the Panjab University Inter-College Competition held at Panjab University Gymnasium Hall in August and also won bronze in National Yoga Championship held at Kurukshetra earlier this year. |
