handling concludes
Ludhiana, November 8 In his introductory remarks, Dr G.S. Padda. Head of the Department, informed that 16 participants had successfully passed the course that was jointly sponsored by the Punjab National Bank and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The candidates were given thorough knowledge on pre and post — harvest practices, food processing technologies, food safety and quality assurance systems in view of WTO, organic. functional and health foods, including products based on honey, mushrooms and agro food commodities of the state, he added. Awareness was created regarding financial schemes of banks regarding food business planning. Unit management and marketing. Laboratory practical on hand practices at pilot scale. Industrial visits and implant training were part of the curriculum, he said. In his presidential address, Dr S.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, encouraged the participants to become job providers rather than job seekers after this training to serve the society. “Their success will encourage farmers in rural Punjab to integrate value addition with farming”, he said. Dr G.S. Chahal, Dean, College of Agriculture, emphasised that in the second phase of Green Revolution the university plans to work for agri-business development in the state to convert farming into an commercial enterprise through value addition activities. Support of financial institutions in this endeavour will prove a milestone in this success. Mr S.K. Behal, Chief Manager, PNB, assured that finances will not be constraint for the young entrepreneurers while Mr Harmesh Kumar from the NABARD desired that such training programmes with the PAU help can be made a regular feature by the financial institutions. Placement week at RIMT
Mandi Gobindgarh, November 8 The companies which visited the campus, were all praise for the students, the infrastructure, especially the computer and hardware labs and quality training being provided at the institute. Some of the companies scheduled to visit in the next few days include Safaltelk, Prosoft, G.R., Softech, Red Alkemi etc. The institute is also in touch with other companies like Mobera Systems for placements. While congratulating the placement team and students of the institute, the Director, Dr B.S. Bhatia, was all praise for the coordinated effort of the team. He thanked the companies for coming to the campus. The placement of MBA students has also begun and some of the students have already been selected. |
Zonal youth festival results
Ludhiana, November 8 The festival got off to a colourful start with the hoisting of the flag by the chief guest, Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor of Ludhiana. Seminar on Legal Services Day
Ludhiana, November 8 This was disclosed by Mr Harbans Lal while presiding over the meeting of top brass of the police and district administration at judicial complex here. The seminar will educate the rural masses about the importance of Lok Adalats and creating awareness about the facility of free legal aid provided by the Legal Services Authority.

Punjab primary school games begin
Ludhiana, November 8 Mr Harnam Dass Johar, Education Minister, Punjab, formally inaugurated the meet. Before the inauguration, Mr Johar took
salute from the participants at an impressive march past. The boys and girls attired in colourful track suits marched before the podium where the minister along with other senior officials of the Punjab Education Department was standing and acknowledged them. This was followed by a cultural programme presented by students. Addressing the function, Mr Johar said the education department had chalked out a comprehensive plan for the promotion of sports in all the schools of the state and funds amounting to Rs 2 crore were being spent to provide adequate sports infrastructure and equipment in the schools as per their requirements. The minister said with a view to improve the general health and sports spirit among the students,
disciplines of gymnastics and yoga had been added in all the schools and trainers had been provided to them. He assereted that to catch the players at primary level, stress had been laid to organise block-level and district-level competitions. Training of excellent quality would be provided to the winning players of state games so that these sportspersons could give good results at the national-level tournaments. |
