4-day state games from Oct 27
Chandigarh, October 18 Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, president, Chandigarh Olympic Association, said competitions in 21 sports disciplines will be held during the meet. As many as 3,000 sportspersons along with around 300 technical officials are expected to participate in various games, including archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey (both men and women), judo, kayaking, rowing, volleyball, canoeing, kho-kho, tennis, table tennis, shooting, weightlifting and swimming. The enthusiasts can report for the participation till October 24. The association will give a grant of Rs 5,000 to each association and the Administration will provide venues and technical support free of cost. On being asked if the association would undertake dope tests, Mr Sodhi said: “Actually, there is no accredited laboratory available here to conduct such tests and the association cannot afford to send the samples abroad.” |
Convincing win by New
Public School team
Chandigarh, October 18 Amanjot 26, Akshayjeet 24 and Gurnayaz 12 were the main scorers for New Public School and Karan 38, Kanwar 11 were the contributors for losers. IS Dev Samaj School, Sector 21 beat DPS, Delhi, in a closely contested tie at the score of 43-41. Meenakshi (17), Lata (10) and Suman (6), were the main contributors for the winners and Gayatri (15), Soniya (11) and Tanvi (6) were main scorers for the losers. In another match, Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, beat Sachdeva Public School, Delhi, with a narrow margin of 33-31 where Niharika (21), Aditi (5) and Jyoti 4 contributed mainly for the winners while Srishti (15), Aditi (8) and Ashmita (6) scored for the losers. In the last match, AG DAV School, Delhi, beat SD School, Chandigarh 54-12. Sumit 19, Pardeep (16) and Sunil (7), scored mainly for the winners while Sanjeev (4), Avtarni (3), Mukesh (3) scored for losers. |

Chandigarh, October 18 Now the Delhi Audit will meet AG, Uttar Pradesh, in the finals, which got walkover as AG, Jammu and Kashmir did not turn up. The results are: Quarterfinals: AG, HP, b AG Haryana, 3-0; Semifinals: AG, UP, b AG, Punjab, 3-1; Delhi Audit b AG, HP 3-0. |
