Navratra celebrations in city schools

Ludhiana, October 10
In order to make the children aware of India's rich cultural heritage Navratras were celebrated with great religious fervour at the local BCM School, Dugri, today. Children wore colourful traditional dresses to mark the occasion and Garba was the main attraction. Girls, dressed up in traditional Gujarati mirror work ‘‘chaniya cholis’’ and boys in dhoti-kurta with colourful dandiya sticks in their hands got into the festive spirit. Even classrooms wore a new look today as these were decorated with streamers and glitter tapes.

‘‘Navratras are dedicated to Goddess Durga, we wanted the kids to know the value of our traditions and the way it is celebrated throughout the country, especially in Gujarat and Maharashtra’’, said the Principal, D. Vandna Shahi.

Everest Playway and Nursery School: A function was held in the school today to mark Navratras. Tiny-tots dressed in bright dresses presented a charming show.

The children prayed to Lord Rama and enjoyed dandiya dance. Mr Rajinder Sharma, president, Everest Schools, while encouraging the children told them about the ancient Indian culture. Anika, Sahaj, Jasleen, Any, Isha and others gave a musical performance. The Principal of the school, Ms Poonam Sharma, distributed sweets and fruits among the children. She thanked the parents who were present there to attend the function.

Spring Dale Senior Secondary School, Sherpur: Navratra celebrations were organised in the school today. Dandiya raas was performed by a group of 24 students. Director and founder Principal, Ms Avinash Kaur Walia, addressed the students on the occasion. The Principal, Ms Sandeep Raikhi, exhorted the students to lead a life of a ‘‘victor’’ by nipping the evil in the bud.

Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School: A fun-filled Dasehra mela was organised in Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Udham Singar Nagar, on Saturday. Students of classes I to X from the two branches of the school in Udham Singh Nagar and Kitchlu Nagar, participated in the mela. Different competitions like debate, poster making, mask making and mukat making were organised to give an opportunity to the students to exhibit their talents. A science exhibition was also organised by the students of classes VI to X. The students displayed models of volcanoes, information and technology, landmarks in science, different types of soils etc. Parents turned out in large numbers and appreciated the hard work put in by the students. Various stalls of mouth -watering delicacies were also put upon the occasion.

Ms Mukta Gogia, relationship manger from Top Careers and You, was also invited to guide the parents on the right choice of career and proper personality development of children. Ms Sunil Arora, Principal, exhorted the students to channelise their energies by taking part of in extra- curricular activities.

M.G.M. Public School: An inter-house declamation contest for the senior wing students was organised at M.G.M Public School, Dugri. There were 12 participants in the final round, three from each house.

The Director of the school, Mr Gajjan Singh Thind, congratulated the students and staff for presenting a good show. He highlighted the importance of confidence and reiterated the fact that by conducting declamation contests and debates confidence could be instilled in students. The results of the declamation contest are as follows: Gurpreet Kaur(Class VII- Hemkunt House) first, Gurnoor (Class VI- Hemkunt House) second and Gurmandeep ( Class VI- Jagannath House) third.

Shemrock Kindergarten: Children’s Dreamland Shemrock Kindergarten, Model Town, Extension, Dugri Road, held a function in the school in connection with Dasehra festival today. Students of Nursery, L.K.G and U.K.G classes staged ‘‘Ram Leela’’ in the school. Various competitions were held on the occasion. Play group and Mont - II students participated in drawing competition.

Training camp for teachers

Samrala , October 10
A 10-day upper primary teacher training camp is going on at Local Government Senior Secondary School (Boys). Group leader of the camp Mr Niranjan Kumar told the mediapersons that teachers from different schools were being trained to work with different teaching aids. Group discussions on improvements in teaching methods were being held.

Under the kind guidance of Block - Co- ordinator Mr. Pardeep Kapoor, Mrs. Kamla Devi, Avtar Singh, Anita, Jaswinder Singh, Kamaljit Kaur, Renu Bala etc are taking part as resource persons in this camp.

Freshers welcomed at RIMT campus

Mandi Gobindgarh, October 10
A welcome party was jointly organised at RIMT-IMCT campus by students of senior classes of the institute and from the Gobindgarh Institute of Management and Technology, Mandi Gobindgarh. Students of BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, MSc, PGDCA took part in the programme. Noted industrialist Mr Hukam Chand Bansal, Chairman of RIMT Group of educational institutes, was the chief guest.

Dr B.S. Bhatia, Director of institute, also spoke on the occasion. The party was held under the supervision of Prof Jagdeep Singh and Prof Ratinder Kaur. Shaili, a senior student of MCA, welcomed the freshers on the behalf of the seniors. Attired in their best the students also presented a lively cultural programme on the occasion.

Improvement trust inefficient, says forum

The Peoples' Awareness Forum has assailed the functioning of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust. It has alleged that the trust has failed to take steps for the betterment of the residential colonies maintained by it.

Prof Prithipal Singh Kapur, president and Prof Gurcharan Singh, general secretary of the Peoples' Awareness Forum in a statement yesterday alleged that the chairman of the Improvement Trust had visited the Rajguru Nagar Colony about a month ago and had promised that steps would be initiated to remove the congress grass and other wild growth. The roads would be repaired within fifteen days. But so far on congress grass which causes serious skin diseases, has been cut and the roads are still in bad shape.

The chairman had promised that the potholes would be repaired as estimates for the same had been approved but there is no sign of any repair work being undertaken.

The Forum leaders further charged that the parks were also in bad shape no proper arrangements had been made for their upkeep.

They have warned that they would be compelled to the approach the senior functionaries of the state government and also launch a campaign against the indifferent attitude of the trust authorities.

The sanitary conditions in Rajguru Nagar Colony, which is a coming up residential area are at its worst. The improvement trust has not made any worthwhile arrangements for the removal of garbage and cleaning of the lanes.
