Sarao leads in shooting

Chandigarh, September 30
International shooter Harveen Sarao of SGGS College, Sector 26, was today leading in the air pistol ISSF event with a score of 375/400 on the second day of the Chandigarh State Shooting Championship being held at the Sector 25 Patiali Ki Rao Shooting Ranges.

In the sub-junior girls section, Akanksha Arora, a class VIII student of Yadavindra Public School, Mohali, stole the limelight by leading in the 10m air pistol (NR) event with a score of 338/400. In the 10m air rifle event, Shaleen Chauhan shot 391/400 and was closely followed by her sister Prabhleen Chauhan who shot 382/400.

In the free rifle ISSF prone senior men category, Sukhdeep Singh was leading with a score of 567/600 while Manjit Singh of the Chandigarh Police shot 518/600 in .22 std rifle OS (NR) prone senior men category. Gurmandeep Singh Sidhu was ahead in air rifle open sight (NR) category when he shot 310/400.

Pawandeep Brar scored 347/400 to stay ahead in air pistol (NR) senior and junior women event. In the standard pistol men event, Holinder Singh of the Chandigarh Police was leading at 264/300.

Indermeet Sarao was leading in air pistol ISSF junior and senior men with a score of 544/600 while in air rifle ISSF senior men, Sarabjeet Singh lead with score of 569/600. In the junior category of air rifle ISSF senior men, Harmandeep Sidhu shot 560/600 and was in the lead.

Raj Kumar is Mr Panjab University

Chandigarh, September 30
Raj Kumar of DAV College, Sector 10, was adjudged Mr Panjab University in the Panjab University Inter-College Best Physique (men) Championship held at the PU campus here today.

The overall championship also went in favour of DAV College by 26 points. The second place was bagged by SCD Government College, Ludhiana, while BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar, got the third place and PU Campus secured the fourth place.

Inter-college softball: In the PU Inter-College Zonal Softball (women) tournament being played at GGS College for Women, Sector 26, both MCM DAV College, Sector 36, and the host college moved ahead by beating AS College for Women, Khanna, 11-0 and PU Campus 8-5, respectively.

Rally team flagged off

Chandigarh, September 30
Mr G. Indeevar, Head, Automotive Aftermarket of Amara Raja, yesterday flagged off the “Team Optima” for the Raid de Himalaya rally.
The team, comprising driver Farhan Vohra and navigators Krupesh Patel, Manav Goel and Amit Arora, will set off from Shimla for the rally.

The rally, comprised of seven stages based on the time speed distance format, will start from Shimla from October 1 and will conclude on October 8 in Manali. The rally is one of the most challenging rallies in terms of operating conditions, stress and strain on the drivers and their teams.

Mayank, Meghna TT champs

Chandigarh, September 30
Mayank Kapoor and Meghna Kakaria claimed the under-10 cadet boys and girls section titles, respectively, in the NPS TT Academy’s 4th Chandigarh State (2nd ranking) Table Tennis, which began here today at the Sector 23 TT Hall.

The three-day meet is being organised by New Public School, Sector 18, and the Rotary Chandigarh Central. Results (finals): Cadet boys: Mayank Kapoor beat Mayank Sharma 11-8, 11-4, 11-3; girls: Meghna Kakaria beat Naina Suri 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-7.
