Kendriya Vidyalaya-31 pugilists hog limelight

It was Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 31, pugilists who hogged the limelight in the boxing events as part of the KVS Regional Sports Meet held at Sports Complex, Sector 42, here today. Shailendra Singh bagged the first position (45 kg to 48 kg category). The second place went to Rahul Mangain of Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2, Ambala.

Under the category of 51 kg to 54 kg, it was again Ashish Kumar of KV-31 who clinched the first place, while Balram Kumar of KV No-1, Ambala, and Gajay Singh of KV-47 bagged the second and third positions, respectively.

In another category (60 kg to 64 kg), Sushil Kumar of KV-31 came first and Sumit Kumar of KV No 1, Ambala, had to content with second place.

The winners of this meet would further compete at the 36th National Games and Sports Meet scheduled to be held here from October 3 to 7.

Another Choi Kwang Do centre in city

Choi Kwang Do Martial Art International India has opened its another training centre Community Centre, Sector 35-B, Chandigarh. The classes will be held thrice a week i.e. on Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm.

“This art can be learnt easily by any age group and it helps in keeping you fit. The sophisticated movements in Choi Kwang Do helps prevent diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis,” said Mr Bikram S. Thapa, fourth degree Black Belt and Chief Technical Director, CKD India.

Rayat college girls shine

Girls of the Rayat Institute of Engineering and Information Technology, Railmajra, Ropar district, won the Punjab Technical UniversityInter-College Table Tennis 
Tournament that concluded at Railmajra village today.

A many as 15 teams participated.

Boys of the college came third in the tournament in which 30 teams from colleges affiliated to Punjab Technical University took part.

The District Sports Officer, Mr Gurmeet Singh Bajwa, was the chief guest.

Girls football tourney from Sept 22

The Chandigarh State Junior Girls (under-19) Football Tournament for St Stephen’s Trophy being-organised by the Chandigarh Football Association (CFA), will start from September 22 at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, here.

The players born on or after January 1, 1987, are eligible to participate in the tournament.

The CFA will select 25 probables for a coaching camp in preparation for Chandigarh ‘s participation in the Junior Girls Football Championship scheduled in November.

Inter-command hockey

South Western Command and Southern Command got the better of Air Headquarters and Training Command by 3-0 and 2-1, respectively, on the second day of the Air Force Inter-Command Hockey Tournament played at the Sector 42 hockey stadium here on Saturday.

Kho kho meet

IS Dev Samaj School, Sector 21, eves outclassed Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, girls by 4 points in the finals of the CBSE Cluster XIII Kho Kho Tournament held at the Shishu Niketan School grounds, here today.

In the boys’ category, SD Public School, Sector 32, beat Shishu Niketan School, Sector 22, by 3 points.

Cricket tournament

The team of MCM Blue Caps beat Saupin’s School, Sector 32, by 22 runs in the first Lukesh Thakur Memorial u-10 Cricket Tournament being played at Stepping Stones, Sector 37. Karan Khosla of the winning team was the star batsman.

Brief scores: MCM Blue Caps:138 runs for four in 20 overs (Karan Khosla 69, Harsaroop 25, Abhi 2 for 24) Saupin’s School: 116 runs for four in 20 overs (Daksh Aggarwal 35 n.o., Rohan 40, Gurkaran 19, Angad 2 for 21). The final will be played tomorrow.

KV-31 win volleyball match

Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Sector 31, thrashed KV-2, Ambala by 25-9, 25-7 in the volleyball match of the regional-level girls’ kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball tournament of Kendriya Vidyalya Sangathan, Chandigarh Region, which commenced at KV Air Force Station High Ground, here today.

As many as 380 students, representing 31 teams of several KVs of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, were participating. The three-day meet was opened by Ms S K Bhatia, principal of the host team.

Shooting meet from Sept 29

The Chandigarh Rifle Association will hold the 30th Chandigarh State Shooting Championship — 2005 at the Patiali Ki Rao shooting range, Sector 25, from September 29 to October 2.

The matches will be held in rifle and pistol events in all age groups and as per rules of the International Shooting Sport Federation and national rules. Entries close on September 28.
