Dieticians meet at DMCH

Ludhiana, August 22
An interactive get together of city-based dieticians and nutritionists was jointly organised by the dietary departments of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and the Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) here yesterday.

A lecture on ‘the importance of enthral and parental nutrition’ was presented by Dr Vivek Gupta, a consultant anaesthetist in the HDHI. His views regarding early initiation of enthral nutrition in critically ill patients and the role of dietician in determining the needs of such patients was well received by all.

The guest speakers from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) focused on the objectives and activities undertaken by the local chapter of the Indian Dietetic Association. Ms Ritu Sudhakar, a dietician at the DMCH informed that the dietary departments of both DMCH and HDHI would be collaborating with the CMCH and the PAU in spreading nutrition education.

Sports team felicitated

Mandi Ahmedgarh, August 22
The u-16 cricket team of Anand Isher Senior Secondary School was felicitated by the Principal and office-bearers of the management committee of the school for finishing runners up in the district level school sports held recently.

While addressing an assembly of students and staff of the school, Mr Kartar Singh and Dr Gurjit Singh, Principal and manager of the institute, respectively, applauded the coaches for the achievement of the school team. Mr Gursewak Singh and Mr Shiv Sahil Puri received a memento on behalf of the team.

Gujjarwal zone eves win in kabaddi

Ludhiana, August 22
The Gujjarwal zone trounced Raikot zone in kabaddi (u-17) in the Ludhiana Schools Inter-Zonal Tournament being played at different grounds here today. In another match, Jagraon zone faced a stiff challenge from Gill zone before romping home winners by a narrow margin of 46-42.

In the u-14 years category, for Sahnewal zone it was a walkover as Gill zone eves failed to turn up for the encounter. In Kho-Kho, PAU zone scored an emphatic win (14-4) over Khanna. Raikot zone registered an easy 19-5 victory over Sahnewal zone.

In volleyball (u-19), Gujjarwal zone beat Khanna zone and Raikot zone outclassed PAU zone. In hockey, Gujjarwal zone and Kila Raipur zone recorded wins in their respective matches. In the u-14 years section, Kila Raipur zone defeated Sahnewal zone 2-0, wheareas Gujjarwal zone beat Sahnewal zone 3-1 in the u-17 years category.

Meanwhile, in badminton, PAU zone beat Samrala zone in the u-14 years category while Gill zone got the better of Jagraon zone. In the u-17 years, Khanna zone and PAU zone beat Samrala zone and Gill zone, respectively. In handball (u-19), R.S. Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, thrashed BCM School, Focal Point 30-1. Harpreet Kaur and Surinder contributed 15 points each. Mr Rupinder Singh Ravi, general secretary of the tournament committee, was the chief guest today. The organisers had to postpone some matches because of rain. These will be played tomorrow.
