The working of Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College, Sector 46, which has been a faithful torch-bearer of ayurveda in the region, is under a cloud. The Principal of the Dhanwantry College, Mr D. K. Baldev, wrote a letter to the Inquiry Officer on April, 15 after his resignation.

Another suicide at Sukhna

Despite several cases of suicide, the Chandigarh Police has apparently failed to make the Sukhna Lake secure. Nothing else can explain another “suicide” by an unidentified youngster early this morning.

It was another day of inconvenience for bus passengers here today as no solution was found to the rift between Punjab Roadways and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) over plying of buses in their jurisdiction.

Passengers planning to travel by Shatabdi Express between Chandigarh and Delhi are no more required to stand in serpentine queues or pay extra money to an agent to buy the ticket for them.

Defence officers to be trained as ‘human resource developers’

The Punjab Defence Services Welfare Department and Institute of Tourism and the Future Management Trends (ITFT) will train retired as well as serving defence officers as “Human Resource Developers” for the service industry. A seminar is being organised in this regard at Ludhiana on August 22.

Brig S.S. Gill to depose in Tehelka case

Brig S.S. Gill, who has been accused of tampering with the record in the Tehelka case, is expected to depose before the general court martial trying Brig Iqbal Singh when it reassembles at Patiala on August 27. The defence has also sought that the call girl shown with him in the video tape be summoned as a witness.

2 killed as jeep rams into truck
Lalru, August 20
Two persons were killed and one was injured seriously when the jeep in which they were traveling rammed into a stationary truck on the Kalka-Ambala highway, near here, early this morning.

Students spread ‘save energy’ message
Chandigarh, August 20
Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40-D, today observed energy conservation day to mark Rajiv Gandi Akshay Urja Divas. A rally was organised by students of Class VIII and IX. They went to Sector 40, holding banners propagating the use renewable sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy, biogas energy. They later formed a human chain. An essay writing competition was also organised. Ekta of Class X bagged the first prize.

Contests mark Urja Divas
Panchkula, August 20
The birth anniversary of late Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated ‘as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Divas’ by 600 students drawn from various schools, who marched in a rally from the Yavanika Park and later converged on the Parade Grounds Sector 5, here today. The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr Parveen Kumar, addressed the students. The students passed through various sectors holding banners with slogans aimed at promoting and creating awareness about the utility of new and renewable sources of energy, systems and devices in day to day life.

National child Award for Anant
