Quiz contests at Saupin’s School

A number of activities were organised at Saupin's School, Sector 32, here, today to bring out the talent of the children.

Students of class V got training in administering first aid. The school doctor threw light on various steps to be taken in case of minor injuries. In the inter-house general knowledge quiz, students of classes III and V got an opportunity to vie with the best brains in the school.

"Spelling Bee" competition was organised for the tiny tots of classes I and II. The day ended with a debate competition among the students of classes VII and VIII.

Competition: A painting competition was organised for the students of nursery class of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, here today. The contest was organised by the Life Insurance Corporation of India on the eve of its golden jubilee celebrations. As many as 95 students participated in the contest.

Mr N.K. Garg, Branch Manger, and Mr Birender Singh and Mr K.K. Marwaha, highlighted the concept of insurance and the policies introduced by the LIC recently. Ms Rajesh Minhas, Principal of the school, gave away prizes to the winners.

Commerce students get practical training

Students of Class XI (commerce) of Saint Soldiers International Public School launched a mock company V.T. Enterprises under the tutelage of their teachers. The company has been formed to give practical knowledge to the students regarding how to form a company which is a part of syllabus.

The mock company has been formed with all the documents required namely MA, AA, and prospectus. Principal V. Tiwana has been appointed CEO, Japreet Kaur as MD and Arvinder Bajwa as GM who is also a subject teacher. President Balveen and vice-president Avneet Kaur introduced the board members to the shareholders at the first meeting of the BOD. All accounts are prepared and maintained by finance manager Pawanjit Singh and company secretary Jasleen Kaur.

The commerce students will arrange stall of eatables during break and product manager Raspreet Singh and marketing manager Manpreet Kaur will go for market survey and compare rates of raw materials.

According to the CEO a part of the profits will be used to sponsor tuition fee of underprivileged children.

Students develop music software

Five students from different colleges have come up with a software on “music on demand”. It was developed during their six-week industrial training held at Prasar Bharti Broadcast Corporation of India, All India Radio, Chandigarh.

It would help AIR to broadcast live music programmes on the request of listeners.

The station had a manual system which broadcasted weekly shows. But with the help of these students, it will be able to broadcast live music shows.

The software has been developed by Atul Gupta, Bhavna Rai, Kangan Arora, Sumya Jain and Sadhna Nagpal.

Faces of Independence

As part of the ongoing Independence Week, celebrations a face painting competition was organised at DAV Public School, Mohali. A number of students participated. The themes were ‘nationalism’ and ‘patriotism’.

The Principal, Ms Jaya Bhardwaj, emphasised the need to inculcate patriotism in the younger generation.

The results of the competition are: Group A (Classes III- VI): Preeti and Anjali (1) and Ruchita and Milli (2). Group B (Class VII -X): Venkatesh and Simranjeet (1) and Ripujeet and Anurag (2).

Longia elected IIMM chairman

Mr O.P. Longia has been elected as the chairman of the Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Chandigarh branch for a term of two years.

The other members of the executive body are: vice-chairman — Mr Y.K. Gautam; secretary — Mr Rakesh Kalia; treasurer — Mr V.K. Sawhney; executive members — Mr S.S. Sabarwal, Mr Rajesh Gupta, Mr Ashwani Kumar and Mr Happy Sharma; national councillors — Mr S.K. Sharma, Mr K.B. Sharma and Dr A.K. Sahijpal.

Badminton
P'kula boys win

Panchkula, August 10
Akshit Mahajan and Saurav Kapoor, both promising badminton players of Panchkula, have cornered glory to the state when they bagged the gold medal in the under-13 doubles and under-19 doubles event of the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament held recently in Pune.

Akshit who plays at Sector 3 Sports Complex here had also reached the last four of the under-13 doubles event of the Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Ranking Badminton Tournament held in Chennai. Saurav was also among the runners-up in the under-19 mixed doubles event.
