SHO transferred in bribe case
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, August 4
The Sector 3 police station is back in the news. In less than a day after a Sub-Inspector was caught red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a person to release his motor cycle involved in an accident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sector 3 police station was today transferred with immediate effect.

Even though senior officials of the Chandigarh Police described the transfer as a “routine affair” and claimed that the SHO’s transfer orders had nothing to do with the nabbing of the SI, sources in the police headquarters did not agree. They said that the IGP, at a meeting, had decided that the senior official would also be proceeded against in case his junior was caught for some irregularity.

A spokesman of the Chandigarh Police said the Inspector General of the Chandigarh Police had ordered the transfer of the SHO Inspector Kulwant Singh Pannu to the CID wing. In his place, Inspector Balihar Singh had been transferred from the Traffic Police.

The Sector 3 police station was in the news on May 30 after the CBI trapped a Head Constable in Sector 10 on the allegations of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 from a roadside teashop owner. The Head Constable, Nachattar Singh, who was posted at a beat box in Sector 10, was trapped by the CBI team after a complaint was lodged by Birdeshwari Prasad Sukla, who was running a teashop near Hotel Mountview in Sector 10.

Medico shop raided
Our Correspondent

Zirakpur, August 4
Close on the heals of a raid conducted by the Panchkula police on a medico shop in Sector 19, a team of the Banur police reportedly, with the assistance of Patiala drug control officials, also raided a chemist shop and seized some capsules and tablets “not to be sold without doctor’s prescription” here this evening.

Sources in the police revealed that the team raided the chemist shop located in Preet Nagar Colony in Zirakpur and seized the drugs.

The clinic was reportedly being run by an unskilled and non-professional chemist. He was allegedly selling capsules of certain sedatives, illegally.

When contacted, ASI Saminder Singh, in charge of the Lohgarh police post, expressed ignorance of the matter.

The Panchkula police had raided Sood Medicos in Sector 19 and in Maheshpur village. Sedatives and other drugs in bulk were seized by the team that was headed by Panchkula SP Balbir Singh.

The owner of the shop had been selling the sedatives — tablets, syrups, capsules and injections — to drug addicts without prescription.

The police has also arrested the shop owners and employees.
