National seminar on mergers
Mandi Gobindgarh, July 31 Ms Jaspreet Kaur Talwar, Deputy Commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib, inaugurated the seminar. She lauded the efforts of the institute for organising the seminar in this district. She released a souvenir. Dr H. P. Mathur, Professor, Business Management, Banaras Hindu University, was the keynote speaker. The seminar comprised two technical sessions. The first technical session was headed by Dr R. K. Mittal, Head, Business
Management Department, Kurukshetra University, along with Dr Narinder Singh, Reader, Kurukshetra University. The second technical session was headed by Dr Kamal Ghosh, Professor, Indian Institute of Law Management
(IILM), New Delhi, and Dr A. K. Vishisht, Professor, University Business School. The valedictory note was given by Dr S. P. Singh, Professor, University Business School, Mr J. P. Singh, President, Steel Chamber, was the guest of honour of valedictory function. Chaudhary Satya Parkash, founder President of GPS was also present. Dr Zora Singh, Chairman, Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes, welcomed the guests. Dr Prem Kumar, President, Punjab Commerce and Management Association emphasised mergers which was one of the greatest strategic tools for the Indian Industrial Corporate Growth. He also said such type of seminars provided a valuable platform for the academicians. Ms Shalini Gupta, Director of the institute, gave the valedictory address. |

Khalsa college students excel in M.Sc II

Ludhiana, July 31 Poonam Monindru stood fourth in the university by securing 87.12 per cent and Amandeep Kaur with 86.18 per cent was ninth. College Principal Varinder Kaur Thind congratulated the staff and students of their success.Talk show: Legends English Village conducted a talk show in the city here at Maharaja Regency. It was hosted by its Director Mr Neeraj Vij along with his crew comprissing Harneet Sehgal, Aman Sahni, Narita Singh on Sunday. This was held to create awareness among the city youth on misuse of camera mobile phones. The chief coordinators were Mrs Beena Rao and Mrs Jyotsna Khumra of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School. Mrs Nonna Khanna, Senior Assistant Principal, CFC Public School, also spoke on the occasion. The talk show had two sessions and urged youth to concentrate on their career. Students said the government should take steps to ban the use of mobiles till a student graduated. Toppers’ day: Toppers day was organised at BCM Senior Secondary School. Mr D.R. Yadava, Joint Secretary, regional office of the CBSE, Chandigarh, was the chief guest. Near 60 students who won top positions in the CBSE exams (X & XII) were awarded certificates and trophies. Discussion: Kundan Vidya Mandir organised a discussion on developing structured study pattern for board exams for students of Classes X to XII. Dr (Mrs) Ravinder Kala, a psychologist, was the coordinator. She highlighted the need to utilise the intellectual potential of the students. Mehndi competition: Mehndi and rangoli competitions were organised for students of classes IX to XII in which 260 students participated to celebrate Teej. The students made beautiful traditional, floral and geometrical rangoli using saw dust, Holi colours, flowers, rice, dals and glitter. The girls displayed their talent by making beautiful traditional pattern with mehndi on their hands. The girls presented dances on “savan numbers”. Puppet show: Different stories were depicted before students of Shemrock through puppets. The idea was to make children enjoy and learn. “Who bites Ted?” was the story that spoke of the ill-effects of mosquito bites and advised them what precautions to take. Through puppets, the students also presented a story with a moral “Honesty is the best policy”. |

Ludhiana, July 31 Ten days’ training at the block level and five days’ training at the GITC level were simultaneously on, covering 13 and six blocks, respectively. These teachers’ training schedules would continue till November. Till date more than 1,000 teachers of the District had got training, elaborated Mrs Sidhu. “Now the teachers are well-versed in making low-cost teaching aids, much to the benefit of school students, and they could demonstrate their lessons to students in an interesting form,” she added. |

Jaundice fear stalks villagers
Mandi Gobindgarh, July 31 A senior Akali leader and former minister Dalip Singh Pandhi who was present at the condolence meeting, said the government had failed to provide health care to the people. He suggested that team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) be asked to visit the area and suggest measures to control the spread of water-borne diseases. Harpreet Singh (14) and Jaspreet Singh (22), also of Rani Mill area, are undergoing treatment at Seth Hospital, Ludhiana. Their elder sister Baljit Kaur (16), Chaman Prashar (48) and Hemant Kumar 28 are also under treatment. Ravinder Kumar and Milandeep have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital. When contacted Mr Avtar Singh Bullar, Senior Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, here said that precautionary measures were necessary during the rainy season for the safety of people. He advised people not to take medicine without consultation of a doctor, as these may prove more harmful in case of jaundice. |
150 patients examined at eye camp
Ludhiana, July 31More than 150 patients were examined, out of which 54 were provided spectacles and 32 others were selected for surgical correction free of cost an eye check-up camp, organised at Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha (Charitable) Hospital at Sarabha village in this district today.
The camp was orgnanised by the chairman of the hospital managing committee Mr Avtar Singh Grewal.
A team of doctors, led by an eye surgeon, Dr Jagroop Singh Baath, conducted the check-up of the patients and distributed medicines among them. Those undergoing surgery in the hospital would be provided lenses free of cost. |
Kabaddi player dies in Canada
Hathur (Ahmedgarh), July 31 Mr Lalli Butahri, Sarabjit Tharike and Soni Sunet told this correspondent that Ambi had played excellently as a raider today and he was watching another match when he collapsed all of a sudden. Organisers suspended all remaining matches as a token of respect to the deceased player. Various sportspersons of India and abroad have termed his death as irreparable loss to the world of sports. Mr Makhan Singh, DPE, official coach of the sports star, said Ambi was born in a middle class agrarian family of this village. He had taken up kabaddi as a game from his childhood and brought laurels to the village and the teams he played for. At present, he was playing for International Kabaddi Club, Moga. Ambi had recently gone to Canada with a team from Punjab and it was his second visit in this year. Terming his demise to be an irreparable loss to the world of sports, various sportspersons mourned his death. Inderjit Singh Randhawa, president, Canada Kabbadi Federation, Seera Sammipuria, Satinderpal Singh Goldy, both office-bearers of the England Sloh Kabaddi Club, Surinder Singh Toni, acting president, the Punjab Kabbadi Academy and Club, Arjuna Awardee Balwinder Singh Fidda, SP, and Rachhpal Singh DSP, Malerkotla, expressed sympathy with his family members. |
KVM lads enter cricket tourney final
Ludhiana, July 31 Batting first, Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School scored 117 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. The main scorers were Akash and Sanchit Gosain who made 58 and 25 runs, respectively, while Geetansh Khaira chipped in with 18 runs. Government High School, Birmi, began their reply on a solid note. They were cruising well with Money Singh and Gurpreet in command. Then, Jasdeep Sehgal of Kundan Vidya Mandir School sent a fiery spell, striking blows at crucial juncture. He grabbed six wickets for 20 runs. Money Singh and Gurpreet Singh made 50 and 16 runs, respectively. Government School’s innings folded at 110 runs after 19 overs. |
Rajesh Gandhi stars in MC Club’s win
Ludhiana, July 31 Batting first Sports Centre Club, made 171 runs in 25 overs and lost seven wickets. Vicky top scored with 48 runs while Rinku and Ramesh made 35 and 23 runs, respectively. For Municipal Corporation Club, the main wicket takers were Rajesh (2 for 22), Deepak Kapoor (2 for 27) and Sunny (2 for 18). Municipal Corporation Club made the required runs after losing eight wickets on the penultimate ball of the match. Rajesh Gandhi remained unbeaten on 41 runs. Other contributors were Deepak Kapoor (34), Gaurav Marwaha (28), Sunil Sharma (24) and Sunny (20). Dharmender of Sports Centre Club scalped five victims for 28 runs while Nanak took two for 24 runs. |
