A hurricane innings of 72 runs by Bhuvnesh steered Jai Bhawani XI to three-wicket win over Sunrrise Club to the final in the second Bholan Devi Memorial Cricket Tournament played at the Government Model Senior Secondary School ground of the Punjab Agricultural University, here today.
Jai Bhawani XI won the toss and decided to field. Sunrise Club scored 154 runs in its quota of 25 overs. The main contributors were Tarun and Sukhpal who made 45 and 26 runs, respectively. Tarun consumed 48 deliveries and his inning was studded with two sixes and six
boundaries.
In reply, Jai Bhawani XI made 156 runs losing seven wickets after 22.2 overs. The hero of their successful chase was Bhuvnesh who hammered 72 runs off just 38 balls. His strokeful innings included five towering sixes and six fours. Deepak chipped in with 19 runs off 15 balls.
Bhuvnesh and Naveen Kala of Jai Bhawani XI were declared the Best Batsman and the Player of the Tournament while Mithun of Sunrise Club bagged the Best Bowler award.
Mr Rupinder Singh Grewal, an NRI and Mr Teja Singh Dhaliwal, general secretary, Punjab Basketball Association, distributed the prizes to the winners. Mr Gagandeep Singh and Mr Sat Preet Saini, senior vice president and general secretary, respectively of the Punjab Youth Congress Sports Cell, along with Mr Dimple Rana, President, Ludhiana District Youth Congress, were also present at the prize distribution function.
