Hawara ‘regrets’ not killing Tytler
Bhaniarawala, Ashutosh were also on hit list

Babbar Khalsa International’s alleged chief Jagtar Singh Hawara has reportedly told the Chandigarh police that he had only one regret — that of being arrested before he could accomplish his mission of assassinating senior Congress man Jagdish Tytler and religious leaders Baba Piara Singh Bhaniarawala and Ashutosh.

Jail floor was broken with dumbbells
Chandigarh, July 9
Jagtar Singh Hawara and his alleged accomplices managed to break the jail floor with the help of dumbbells before digging the tunnel. After digging 10 to 12 feet vertically with the help of a “khurpa”, they proceeded horizontally.

ESPL union opposes purchase of components

The ESPL Employees Union today opposed the move of the management to purchase components for the unit even when the factory was lying closed. According to information available, electronic components worth over Rs 4 lakh had been purchased which were delivered at the factory today.

ECHS clinic, CSD canteen to come up in Sec 47

To cater to the needs of ex-servicemen in the city and its vicinity, a multi-facility complex, which will include an ECHS clinic and a CSD canteen, will be constructed in Sector 47 here.

The Chandigarh chapter of Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) today released three books written with the objective of spreading legal literacy among people, the academia, NGOs and lawyers.

Minor girl abducted

Theft of three vehicles, including two motorcycles, and a car stereo, was reported to the Chandigarh Police in the past 24 hours. Besides this, the two gas cylinders were also stolen.

Contractual teachers hold protest

As many as 400 teachers working in various government schools of the city held a protest at Matka chowk here today. The teachers, accompanied by their children, raised slogans against the Administration for terminating their services. The children appealed to the Administration to “save” their families.

Satin, net weave ‘black magic’

Models sashayed down the ramp presenting beautiful creations of students of the local National Institute of Fashion Design at a fashion show “Trends — 2005” organised at Mohali Club here today. Various items from innovative collections were presented one after the other by female as well male models at the colourful evening which started about an hour late. A few disruptions in the power supply marred the show. The collections included short check shirts, ponchos, black party wear gowns, bridal wear and khadi summer outfits.

For Jamna Dass who turned hundred on July 1 this year, life is a happy twinkle in his eyes and a century of vast changes. “Life is about living each moment to the fullest, imbibing the many changes that come by”, believes this feisty man who was felicitated at a special ceremony today by the Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association amidst fanfare, celebrations, flowers and a cheerful pink cake!

Dev Saini clinches TT titles
Chandigarh, July 9
It was a day for Dev Saini of DAVPS-8 who clinched the titles in both junior and sub-junior categories (boys) on the penultimate day of the Bhawan Hawk’s 11th Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh State (1st Ranking) Table Tennis Tournament being held at Table Tennis Hall, Sector 23, here, today. It was a one-sided affair tie in the sub-junior finals as Dev Saini outclassed Puneet at 11-6, 11-9, 11-6.

Saurabh Arora Saurabh Arora: an upcoming fast bowler

Saurabh Arora, a promising cricketer is on the verge of maturing into a fast bowler of repute. This 19 year old, law student of Panjab University, Chandigarh has been a National player and his real exposure began when he represented Indian Schools Cricket team in the Commonwealth (under 19) Cricket meet in year 2003. Saurabh has also represented Haryana in the Cooch Behar trophy for under 19 section and displayed his prowess. In many open tournaments held at state level, he has won best bowler several times.
