De-addiction camp

Ludhiana, June 11 Mr Ladhar interacted with the inmates of the jail, who were undergoing treatment. Mr Ladhar said Dr Kotnis hospital was always ahead in social service projects and the camp was the first of its kind in Punjab jails. The credit for organising the camp goes to Mr Kuldeep Singh, Jail Superintendent., Mr S.P. Khanna, Deputy Jail Superintendent and Dr Inderjit Singh, MS of the hospital, he added. Mr Kuldip Singh said the duration of the camp should be extended beyond 25 days and a permanent centre of Dr Kotnis hospital should be established in jail premises. The camp was organised free of cost by the hospital. Mr Ladhar said for drug de-addiction programme, the state government had earmarked Rs 2 crore in its budget. Dr Inderjit Singh said treatment with acupuncture therapy was very useful for detoxification and more than 75 per cent of the addict prisoners were feeling detoxified. |
Blood Donation Day on June 14
Ludhiana, June 11 According to Dr Amarjit Kaur, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, distinguished blood donors and other organisations, including NGOs, associated with the blood donation programme, would pay their homage to the great scientist. A large number of voluntary blood donors and service organisations that had made significant contribution in the blood donation programme in the region would also be honoured at the function. She said the occasion would also be utilised to review the progress of blood donation campaign and the manner in which it could be carried forward more effectively for the benefit of all sections of society and to serve humanity in a more meaningful way. “It is primarily with the object of highlighting the significance of academic development in the speciality that the participants would have an opportunity to review as to how their respective institutions could play a better role in progress of the blood donation programme. Dr Amarjit Kaur emphasised the need to propagate the humanitarian activity of voluntary blood donation so as to make it a way of life for the youth. |
Ritu, Baljinder win TT titles
Ludhiana, June 11 In the women’s section, Ritu got the better of Narpinder Kaur of Unit-III to bag the top honours while Sunita Dhar of the Divisional Office, Dugri, had to content with the third place. In the men’s final, Baljinder Singh proved too good for Vikas Sharma of the Divisional Office to romp home victorious. The third position was bagged by Harjit Vashisht of the Divisional Office, who defeated Sanjiv Kalia of Unit-II. The tournament was organised by the LIC Employees Sports and Recreation Club as per the Sports Calendar provided by the Zonal Office of the LIC of India, New Delhi. |
