Patients examined on No Tobacco Day

Mohali, May 31
As a part of its outreach programme, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, on the occasion of “World No Tobacco Day” organised a one-day free pulmonology check-up camp at the hospital her today. Free consultation was given to more than a 100 patients for lung diseases, malignancy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders, asthma and other respiratory problems. Also, free-lung function tests (spirometry) were conducted to assess the condition of the lungs of patients, free of cost.

Vikram leads St John’s to victory

Leg spinner Vikram Talwar spun a 60-run victory for St John’s School-26 against Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula, in the ICL Certifications Inter-School Cricket Tournament being organised by the Chandigarh Cricket Association, affiliated to the Haryana Cricket Association, at the St John’s School ground in Sector 26 here today.

Bowling a tight line and length, Vikram wrecked Bhavan Vidyalaya by dismissing their four main batsmen and gave only 27 runs. The Panchkula school’s innings terminated at 109 in 23.4 overs. Tushar (14), Naman Prashar (11) and Krishna Ahuja (12) were the main scorers for Bhavan Vidyalaya.

Earlier, St John’s batting first scored 169 for 6 in their stipulated 30 overs. Their innings was bolstered by a third wicket valuable partnership for 87 runs between Angad and Myanak.

Angad faced 63 deliveries for his 43 runs, which included four fours. Mayank’s knock of 34 was studded with five hits to the boundary. Anurag contributed 25 runs.

Medium pacers Anubhav (3 for 22) and Tushar (2 for 36) were the most successful bowlers for Bhavan Vidyalaya. Tomorrow, Little Flowers, Panchkula, will meet St Stephen’s at Satluj Public School, Panchkula.

Brief scores: St John’s: 169 for 6 in 30 overs (Angad 43, Mayank 34, Anurag 25, Anubhav 3 for 22, Tushar 2 for 36). Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula: 109 in 23.4 overs (Tushar 14, Naman Prashar 11, Krishna Ahuja 12, Vikram Talwar 4 for 27).

Cricket tourney from today

Chandigarh, May 31
The seven-day under-14 cricket tournament, organised by the Chetan Sports Foundation Trust (CSFT), will start tomorrow at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, here.

“Around 11 teams of different reputed clubs and schools of Delhi, Kanpur and Chandigarh will participate in the tournament, in which four umpires of Punjab along with two umpires of the Delhi District Cricket Association will be deputed “, said Chetan Sharma, a former Indian cricketer and Managing Trustee of the CSFT

11 SIs transferred

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh, today ordered the transfers of 11 Sub-Inspectors (SIs).

Two women SIs have been given charge of two police posts. SI Harjit Kaur has been transferred from the Police Lines to Sukhna Lake police post and SI Poonam Dilawari has been shifted from Sector 31 police station to the Palsora police post.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Janak Singh Rana has been shifted from Sukhna Lake police post to Bapu Dham police post, SI Malkiat Singh has been transferred from Maloya police post to Sector 19 police station, SI Maninder Singh of Bapu Dham police post has been shifted to the Sector 3 police station.

SI Yash Pal has been transferred from Sector 24 police post to Sector 17 police station, SI Nirmal Singh has been transferred from Palsora police post to Sector 31 police station, SI Jaswinder Singh has been transferred from the Police Lines to Maloya police post, SI Sanjeev Kumar has been shifted from Sector 19 police station to Sector 24 police post, SI Sujan Singh has been shifted from Sector 3 police station to the Police Control Room and SI Puran Chand has been transferred from the police station Sector 34 as Additional SHO of Sector 3 police station.

Sahai replaces Poddar

Chandigarh, May 31
Mr Sanjeev Sahai, a UT cadre IAS officer, will join as Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board on Thursday.

Mr Sahai replaces Mr S.C. Poddar, who had been shifted about three weeks ago. The work of Chairman, CHB, was being handled by the Finance Secretary, Mr S.K. Sandhu, during the period. TNS
