Farmers asked to adopt dairy farming

Ludhiana, May 24
On the concluding day on Monday of a 10-day “Specialised Dairy Training Course” organised by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, PAU, Ludhiana, Dr Sarjit Singh Gill, Director, Extension Education, said farmers should adopt dairy farming on commercial basis as an alternative to agriculture. Experts from college of veterinary science advised the trainees to keep high-yielding dairy animals, and construct economical but comfortable houses for them.

Advising the young farmers to adopt dairying as an enterprise, Mr Gurbhajan Singh Gill said the farmers could contact at 0161-2401960/Ext-453, 466 for guidance.

Teachers protest against privatisation

Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 24
Various employees’ organisations organised a protest march under the banner of the Adhyapak Sangharash Committee and burnt an effigy of the state Chief Minister.

They were protesting against the government’s move to privatise education in the state and the alleged callous attitude of authorities at local Treasury Office.

Leaders of the Government Teachers’ Union, the SCBC Teachers’ Union, the Punjab State Subordinate Services Federation and the Adhyapak Dal criticised the state government for allegedly trying to paralyse the education system.

Sikander Singh Jartoli, Ram Singh Dehliz, Nirmal Singh, Harbans Singh Aulakh, Bhagwan Singh, Balbir Singh Dhaler and Gulzar Singh, all office-bearers of various unions, spoke on the occasion.

After marching through the streets of the town, the protesters burnt the effigy of Punjab Chief Minister at the grain market and held a rally at the Treasury Office. OC

Shilpa tops in B.Com

Shilpa Ahuja, a BCom final year student of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, has topped in Panjab University securing 79 per cent (1142/1450) marks. She has topped in the university for the third consecutive year.

Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Shilpa said she owed her success to the almighty, her college Principal and teachers, and her parents.

A resident of Model Gram, Shilpa said head of the commerce section Priyanka had contributed to her success. She said: “Hard work and dedication pay in life. I used to concentrate on my studies for six to seven hours during examination days and that has borne fruits,” said Shilpa.

Ridhee to be honoured

District Administration will honour Ridhee Singla of BCM School on August 15 for scoring 97.4 per cent marks in Class XII All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination conducted by CBSE. Ridhee has taken Commerce stream and is topper in the state. The results were declared yesterday. OC

Tips on fashion designing

“Mallika wanted to wear a sexy but Indian dress for her appearance with Jackie Chan at the Cannes Film Festival and I designed the outfit accordingly. People have really appreciated the dress in which hottest woman of Bollywood looks sensual and elegant”, said Ashley Rebello, most sought-after designer, here today. He was in the city today to give tips on designing to the students of National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFD).

He is the first Indian designer to design clothes for Oscar-winning directors. These days he is busy designing clothes for Nicole Kidman, Hunter Tylor, Ms Universe 2005, Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Karishma Kapoor and a lost of other celebrities.

While designing, I keep in mind the character of the personality, director’s thinking towards character and my own imagination”, said the ace designer.

He said, “I love India, Indian culture, Indian clothes. I have come from a Catholic background. Never in my wildest dream, I had thought that I would be surrounded with people who would always speak Hindi. But now I have got adjusted to the atmosphere.I always miss Mumbai whenever I am away”.

Rebello said there was a vast scope for the designers in India as both men and women had become fashion conscious. Terming it to be a lucrative profession, the designer advised the budding designers not to let their potential die. “You should keep on working and do not be discouraged at any cost. Experience enhances your personality. Adopt designing as a full-fledged career and make your name in it”, he said.

Last but not least he said that even a simple dress would enhance one’s personality, more important was how to carry oneself. “My family members are always complaining as I have never designed for them”, he said.

Vedic Karmyoga camp begins

Keeping oneself away from the busy schedule of studies a week-long Vedic Karmayoga Camp for girls was inaugurated at Swami Dayanand Hall yesterday in which 55 girls are participating.

The camp includes meditation, morning hawan, religious thoughts, yoga, folk dance, painting, drawing and personality grooming to provide students the right direction to channel their energy and lead a life of morality.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr. Satyanand Munjal, M.D. and Co-Chairman, Hero Cycles.

Principal Paramjit Kaur highlighted the need of such camps in the present scenario.

BNSM students shine: It is a matter of great pride for BNSM College of Technical Education, Alamgir, that a majority of the students of BCA and PGDCA and M.Sc. (IT), have been placed in various government and private agencies.

According to a press note, Manveer Singh, Manjinder Singh, Manjinder Kaur, Gurmeet Kaur and Ramandeep Kaur have joined various Government Senior Secondary Schools as computer faculty. Similarly Gurmukh Singh, Varinder Singh, Ravinder Singh and Rajvir Singh have been placed in Tata Indicom and Charan Kamal Mehta, Ramanpal Kaur, Harjaspreet Singh and Harinder Kumar in Connect, LIC Housing Finance, Net Cradle and HCL Peripherals.

KIMT toppers: Shipra Jain of BCA -III semester has topped in Punjab Technical University by securing 609/700 marks whereas Tanya Jain and Palvi Rai have attained III and VI positions in the university by securing 597 and 588 marks.

In BCA-V semester, Kiran Kaur Grewal attained the third position. Dinky of MCA-III semester secured the fifth position.

Auction of defaulter’s property ordered

Ludhiana, May 24
The court of the Civil Judge, Senior Division, Mr G.C. Garg, has ordered the auctioning of the property of Harmeet Singh, proprietor of Guru Nanak Agro Service Centre, located at Iqbal Ganj Chowk, Ludhiana, on May 26.

The orders have been passed in an execution application filed by the State Bank of India’s Tagore Nagar branch to recover Rs 2,70,490 along with interest from the opposite party/judgement debtor. OC

Suraj, Ashma win chess titles

Ludhiana, May 24
Suraj Parkash of Unit II got the better of Kirti Sharma of Divisional Office, Dugri, to win the title in the men’s section while Ashma prevailed over Ritu to clinch the title in the women’s section of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Chess Tournament, organised by the LIC Employees Sports and Recreation Club which concluded at Dugri office here today.

Participants from all local offices of the LIC took part in this three-day tournament. Mr D K Bhagat, Senior Divisional Manager of LIC Ludhiana division gave away the prizes. OSR
