Alleged narcotics smuggler commits suicide

A karyana merchant, facing charges of narcotics smuggling, of Sehbazpur village near Macchiwara committed suicide today after allegedly facing harassment at the hands of the local police who allegedly implicated him in a false case.

Govt fails to hand over land to rightful owners

Successive governments in the state have failed to tell the Block Development Office at Pakhowal to hand over residential plots to their legal holders, who had been allotted pieces of land measuring 100 square yards each by the then Governor in 1975.

Restrain magician from showing animals in shows: AWBI
New Delhi, May 7
The Animal Welfare Board of India, an autonomous body under the administrative control of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, has written to the District Collector of Ludhiana to restrain a magician from exhibiting unregistered animals in magic shows.

The Unemployed Elementary Teachers Union at its meeting here today at Chattar Singh Park decided to lock the 200 schools in various villages of Punjab if these were handed over to private managements as announced by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

Jatin-Lalit treat for Ludhiana residents

Live musical shows these days are a rarity. Even when the artistes present the ‘live’ shows they depend much on their own pre-recorded voices and only do the “lip service” before the audience. However, the Mumbai Blast, a musical night presented by eminent musicians of the film industry Jatin and Lalit proved to be a different experience as it was live in the true sense.

Annual meeting of PRSPC today

The annual general meeting of the Punjab Rural Sports Promotion Council (PRSPC) will be held at the conference hall of Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday between 10 and 12 noon. Mr Pavittar Singh Grewal, general secretary, PRSPC, informed that the council which oversees rural sports clubs in Punjab, would be reconstituted.
