PGI doctors attend yog sadhna workshop
Chandigarh, April 28 During the workshop, the doctors were taught about various yoga practices to be adopted for keeping their muscles and body fit. Also the finest techniques of pranayam and dhyana were taught to purify the inner self. “The doctors were taught that yoga is not a physical exercise but it is a
way of healthy living,” said Mr Sharma and added that the programme was well received by the doctors. “It was wonderful to watch those treating patients regularly to treat their own selves and rejuvenate themselves through the ancient science of yoga of Patanjali Yog Sutra”, he said. |
24-hr gynae wing at hospital
Mohali, April 28 The hospital would also come up with one more maternity ward in the near future. The ward would be set up under the Reproductive and Child Health Scheme. Estimates for civil works have been sent by the Punjab Health Systems Corporation to the Central Government for approval. It is learnt that under the scheme, a grant of Rs 10 lakh was sanctioned
to each hospital for strengthening maternity services. |
Noor, Vijayant win tennis titles
Chandigarh, April 28 The highest age group title of the series i.e.boys under-16, was played between the fifth seed Vijayant Malik of Chandigarh and top seed Shiva Sangwan also from Chandigarh. Vijayant Malik was too good for his opponent as he beat Shiva 6-2,6-0. The boy’s under-14 doubles title went to Gauravinder Singh Toor and Akshat Joshi when they defeated Raghav Singhal and Digvijay Singh in the final which was decided in three sets. The seeded pair of Gauravinder and Akshat had a tough opponent in pair of Ragahv and Digvijay and score was read in their favour at 7-6 (8-6),4-6,6-3. The girls under-16 title went to the top seed Alisha Talwar from Punjab when she defeated her 6th seed opponent Ankita Singh of Chandigarh at 6-2,6-4. Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports, Punjab, gave away the prizes to the winners and also granted Rs 50000 to the Total Tennis Academy. Mr T.R. Tremendous facelift to Lake Club complex
Chandigarh, April 28 To beat the scorching heat, one can have a splash in the water at the recently renovated state of the art swimming pool. The all new pool is there to keep you cool. New tiles have been put up and more bathrooms and toilets are being constructed for added convenience. The passage to the pool has been renovated with new enclosures around the pool. All this for Rs 175/- a month for members of the club and Rs 125/- a month for dependants. Non-members can also enjoy these facilities but they will have to part with Rs 650/- a month. There are separate timings for the convenience of ladies — 4 am to 5 am. A woman coach is being arranged for them. The timings for men are 5 am to 6 am. “Keeping in mind that the office-goers can come only in the evenings after 5 pm, we have scheduled the late evening timings from 6 pm to 8.30 pm for families. Better light arrangements have been made for the purpose”, said Mr Reet Mohinder Singh, GM, Chandigarh Lake Club. Adjoining this pool a kiddy pool and a multipurpose hall for indoor badminton and volleyball is likely to come up shortly. For water sports enthusiasts, the department has a sufficient number of imported and Indian boats for rowing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing. The department is in the process of procuring the latest versions of equipments required for these sports. Several institutional teams like Punjab Police, CRPF and Panjab University have been availing the facilities on regular basis. An international squash court will be operational by the end of August with imported glass wall and maple flooring. Similarly, four new synthetic courts for lawn tennis are under construction and will be completed within three months, Mr Sidhu told. Apart from this lawn tennis, horse riding, table tennis, billiards and other facilities like aerobics, archery and croquet have been added. There are plans for starting para-gliding and beach volleyball also in the complex. |
Sukhdeep, Mansimran excel in shooting
Chandigarh, April 28 Sukhdeep Singh, member, Chandigarh Rifle Association, won the gold medal in senior civilian category with a score of 577/600. Mansimran Singh, also a member of the Chandigarh Rifle Association, won the gold medal in junior category with a score of 569/600. He also won the bronze medal in the senior civilian title. The event was conducted by the Uttaranchal State Rifle Association on behalf of the National Rifle Association of India from April 22 to 27. Only the national qualified shooters of eight states of New Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh were eligible to participate in this event. |

Trials to select the junior Patiala district football team (u-19) will be held at the Polo ground at 4 pm. According to Mr S.S Gill, Secretary of the Patiala District Football Association, only those players who have been born on or after 1986 will be eligible to take part in the trials. The team will participate in the 26th Junior Punjab state Football Championship slated to be held at Malerkotla from May 4 to 8.
