Cricket is claimed to be the most popular sport in the country. Only last month, the PCA Stadium, Mohali, was teeming with spectators who had come to witness the India-Pakistan Test match. The match had generated huge revenue for the organisers and was a big draw.

But only a handful of spectators — most of them organisers and mediapersons — turned out to witness the Ranji Trophy final played between Punjab and Railways that ended today. Stands wore a deserted look with the match drawing a few spectators.

Also, none of the channels came forward to telecast the match, a departure from the practice of airing first class matches.
