Advocates competent to audit accounts, says association
Hoshiarpur, March 23
Resentment prevailed among the members of the Taxation Bar Association here against the proposed Punjab Value Added Tax Act. It is being implemented from April 1, 2005 in which only Chartered Accountants have been authorised for the purpose of auditing accounts.

HC appoints panel to determine farmers’ losses

While adjudicating the petition filed by the Progressive Farmers Association headed by Mr Sukhpal Singh Khaira, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has appointed a high-powered committee to determine the losses suffered by farmers during the kharif 2000-01 season and the extent they have been compensated.

Teachers join ‘handcuffs’ against govt

Staff of aided schools to stage dharna on March 28

Nearly 10,000 teachers in 488 government-aided schools of the state have decided to stage a dharna at Matka Chowk, Chandigarh, on March 28 in support of their demand for the restoration of pension and other demands.
