Mohali, February 17 Apart from a number of development projects in different parts of the town, the agenda also contained items relating to council employees. Mr N.K. Marwaha pointed out that PUDA had linked the lights in various parks to the streetlight points being run by the council. As such the lights in parks remained functional throughout the night, not only leading to a wastage of power, but also adding to the power bill that the civic body had to pay. Mr Amrik Singh Mohali said a part of the parking area in Phase II was in a state of neglect. He demanded a premix carpet in the area at the earliest. Mr Manjit Singh Sethi said a development project of his ward was not put on the agenda of the meeting although the municipal engineer had told him that the item had been approved by the officials concerned. Mr Sham Bansal said the council had earned an additional income of Rs 3.32 crore from octroi by not giving the work on contract. He suggested that the additional revenue could be spent on the construction of the council office building coming up in Sector 68 here, instead of completing the building by taking loans on high rate of interest. The president of the civic body, Mr Kulwant Singh, told Mr Bansal that the council would take loan only it became unavoidable. It would try to construct the office building out of its own resources, he said. |
