Rationalise stamp duty: TCA
Ludhiana, February 2 In a statement here today, TCA president S.R. Mittal said the rate of stamp duty should not be more than 2 per cent of the gross value of transferred property. He opined the stamp duty should be made payable only on appreciated value of the property. In other words, at each transfer of property, the stamp duty should be charged only on value addition. Mr Mittal said the task was very tough since consent of all states had to be obtained. He was, however, confident that once the process was set in motion, it would not be impossible to achieve the objective.
