MC does away with sanitation certificate
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, December 29
In a significant decision, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh (MCC) today decided to do away with the issuance of “satisfactory certificate” by the area councillor to sanitation contractor for the release of payment.

At a meeting here, the sanitation committee decided that instead of issuing the certificate, the councillor concerned, along with the sanitary inspector, would inspect the area once a week.

To dispose of dry leaves on roads, the committee decided to purchase two mobile machines. The sanitation contractors were also allowed to pay safai karamcharis in cash instead of cheques.

The chairman of the committee, Mr Chander Mukhi Sharma, said it would not be mandatory for the safai karamcharis to wear uniforms. Instead, some kind of identification mark such as an arm band would be made mandatory.
