PCTE to compile book on NRI businessmen

Ludhiana, December 9
The Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE) has received an industry project to compile a book on NRI businessmen settled in England during the visit of Dr K.N.S. Kang, Director of the institution, to England under a faculty exchange programme with City College, Birmingham. The PCTE had signed an MoU with the British college in June 2004. Under the exchange programme, Dr Kang was invited to participate in a meeting of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Dr Kang said there was a dire need for the identification and acknowledgement of Indians who had managed to establish their identity abroad. He also dwelt upon the PCTE’s contributions in the form of books on “Business Families of Ludhiana” and “Business Groups in Punjab”. He also made an offer to compile a book on Indian businessmen settled in England to the Institute of Asian Businesses of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

10 more file papers for Bar panel elections

Ludhiana, December 9
Ten more candidates today filed nomination papers for the coming annual elections of the District Bar Association. Several candidates distributed sweets and eatables after filing nomination papers with the Returning Officer.

Mr Dev Raj Sharma filed nomination papers for the post of president. He is the first candidate to file nomination papers for the presidentship.

The sitting Bar President, Mr Balwinder Goel, declared to file nomination papers for the post again tomorrow. Mr G.S. Bal today declared his candidature for the presidentship.

He is likely to file nomination papers tomorrow.

Mr P.L. Anand filed nomination papers for the vice-presidentship, Mr Kanwaljit Singh Bajwa and Mr Sanjeev Malhotra for the posts of secretary. For joint secretary, Mr S.P. Singh and Mr Bikram Pal Singh Binder for finance secretary Mr Ranjit Singh and for executive members, Mr R.K. Arora, Mr Vijay Sehajpal and Ms Anju Sharma have jumped in the election fray.

Bar chief honoured

The District Bar Association president, Mr Balwinder Goel, was today honoured by the Labour Bar Association on the occasion of the inauguration of its office.

Mr Goel was honoured at the meeting presided over by the Labour Bar Association president, Mr Chaman Lal Vashisht, who said there was no proper accommodation for labour lawyers. With the efforts of Mr Goel this problem had been resolved, he said.
