Ex-servicemen body for 24-hr polyclinic
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, December 2
In a representation to the Managing Director of Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme, a city-based ex-servicemen association has demanded that the recently established Chandigarh Ex-servicemen Polyclinic should be functional round the clock. As of now it is only open from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.

The members of All-India Ex-servicemen Welfare Association have also demanded for the provision of ambulance service.

Its chairman Bhim Sen Sehgal has further sought upgrading the clinic to “B” from “D” category, keeping in view the number of ex-servicemen, in the city. He has also demanded that there should be no discrimination on the basis of “rank” for the purpose of treatment.

The latest information regarding the health schemes for ex-servicemen, along with circulars and notifications, should be supplied to all ex-servicemen organisations, he further added.

He stated that the Director-General of Armed Forces Medical Services should not be allowed to interfere in the functioning of health scheme. “One of the reasons for the scheme’s failure is complications involved while filling up the membership forms and particulars, besides unnecessary formalities. Hence, a simple form should be provided.

In case of serious diseases, the members should be allowed to approach the empanelled hospitals in the area directly without first taking the patient to the emergency wing of the Command or Military Hospital, or even ex-servicemen polyclinic, as it may prove fatal, he concluded.
