Crisis in aided B.Ed colleges

Ludhiana, November 24 It was a joint effort of various organisations/unions associated with education. Representatives from the Management Federation of Private aided colleges, Principals’ Federation, Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU), and the Members of Panjab University Senate discussed at length the financial crisis being faced by aided B.Ed colleges due to suspension of grant-in-aid from the Punjab Government. G.S. Brar (Co-president PCCTU) spoke on various issues related to the crisis. They stressed that the government must rethink the decision on logical/rational basis. A joint action committee was formulated to fight for the cause of education. The members of joint action committee are S.C.
Sanwalka, G.S. Sarna, Gurdish Singh Grewal, S.S. Hundal, R.S. Brar, Jagwant Singh, Gurmohan Walia,
R.P. Assija, Shangara Singh, Satinder Dhillon, Ravinder Kaur and S.S. Sangha. It was decided by the joint action committee to fight for the restoration of grant-in-aid to B.Ed Colleges on priority. Due to the suspension of grant-in-aid, 15 aided B.Ed colleges of the state are suffering. |
Taal-2004 captivates audience

Ludhiana, November 24 Principal Kiran Sharma welcomed the chief guest, Mr Rakesh Pandey, Minister of Science and Technology. Among other guests of honour were Advocate K.R. Sikri and Mr Rajkumar Aggarwal. Taal -2004 comprised folk songs, dances and skits. Students danced on Western tunes in dandia. Tiny tots of Kiddies’ Paradise observed martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur. After bhog of sehaj path kids performed a Gurbani kirtan. A competition in ‘mool mantra’ was also held in which Alam Jot Singh won the first position. The tiny tots distributed langar to the devotees. Lectures on dairy farming held
Ludhiana, November 24 This was stated by Dr Amrik Singh Sandhu, Director of Extension Education, while presiding over the concluding function of the training programme organised by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, PAU. He emphasised that most of the work in dairy farming is being done by women folk and their training would go a long way in the improvement of this profession. Dr Ranjodhan Singh Sahota, Prof-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, told that the Department of Animal Husbandry, Himachal Pradesh, has planned to send 12 batches of 50 women dairy farmers for training at PAU. Under the programme, 23 lectures were delivered on various aspects, i.e. selection of animals, balance feeding, fodder production, management, first-aid and health management vaccination and
deworming, clean milk production and preparation of milk products by university experts. The participants praised the arrangements and training organised by the varsity and presented Himachali folk songs at the concluding function. |

Advancements in
surgical techniques demonstrated
Doraha, November 24 Dr Arora demonstrated the recent advancements in surgical techniques of
laparoscopic colo-rectal surgery and many other procedures. Various topics were discussed with the help of vide a clippings. A session was devoted to demonstrate the process of looking after the ostomies (artificial opening for stool and urine passage) created by the surgeons for various cancer and other operations. Nursing students discussed the management of ostomies complications. A day-long CME and demonstrations of cases and operations were also conducted at a cancer hospital in Ludhiana, which was attended by post-graduate surgeons of all medical colleges of Ludhiana. Dr Arora delivered a lecture on “Recent advances in minimally invasive
colo-rectal surgery” to members of the Indian Medical Association, Doraha, Sahnewal Branch, in which he highlighted various advanced
laparoscopic colo-rectal surgeries which have evolved during the past few years. Dr Gurdip Singh Sidhu said the newly developing speciality of
colo-rectal surgery in India was being propagated by the Association of
Colo-Rectal Surgeons of India. The association awards visiting professorship to an eminent surgeon
every year and Dr Arora has been chosen for the year 2004. Dr Arora has presented his work at various national and international meetings, delivered many orations and chaired a large number of scientific sessions, apart from being a former president of the Delhi state chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India and Vice-President of the International College of Surgeons. |

R.S. Pali welcomed the guests and a word of thanks came from Principal of the college, Jaswant Singh Gill. On the second day of the tournament, the first match was played between Punjab Public School, Rupalon (A) and
R.S. Khalsa High School, Jaspalon in which Rupalon School defeated jaspalon by a score of 5-4. The second match was between Malwa Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana and Government Senior Secondary School Doraha which was won by Doraha school by 5-0. In the third match Government Senior Secondary school Sahnewal defeated Malwa Senior Secondary School Sahnewal defeated by a score of 4-0. In the last match of the day, Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha defeated Punjab Public school, Rupalon (B) by 3-2. On the concluding day, the initial match was played between PPS Rupalon and Government Senior Secondary School, Doraha in which Doraha school won by 5-0 in the semifinals. The next semi final was played between Government Senior Secondary School, Sahnewal and Guru Nanak Model school, Doraha in which Doraha school came out victorious by a score of 1-0. The final match was however played between Government High school. Doraha and Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha which was won by Government Senior Secondary School Doraha by a score of 6-0. Chief guest, Amrik Singh Minhas awarded a cash prize of Rs 3100 to the winning team along with the trophy and individual mementos. The runners up team was given a cash prize of Rs 2100 along with trophy and individual mementoes. |
Sports mela from December 10
Samrala, November 24 Dog races, horse races, athletics, cart races Kabaddi and Hockey will be the main events.
