82 donate blood

Mohali, November 17
As many as 82 persons donated blood at a camp held at the Phase IV Tarana Bhavan here today. The camp, organised by the House Owners Welfare Society, Phase-5 in association with Lions Club was held to mark the inauguration of the new wing of the building.

The Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty, Ms Lakhwinder Kaur Garcha, inaugurated the building and gave amount of Rs 50,000 from special fund to the society for the development. Apart from blood donation, an eye and tooth check up camp was also organized on the occasion. More than 15 students of the Industrial Training Institute, Phase-5 who donated blood were given sweaters and thermos for their contribution. Seven couples, who donated the blood were awarded with appreciation certificates and mementos.

1441 checked at medical camp

Mohali, November 17
As many as 1441 persons including students of seven schools were checked for various diseases at medical camp organised at Bakarpur village here today. MLA Kharar, Bir Devinder Singh, inaugurated the camp. Doctors from all specialities were available at the camp to check patients.

The MLA said there was a large incidence of tooth and eye problems among the children of the area. As many as 17 cases of tuberculosis were also detected at the camp. More than 30 patients have been called to the nearest government hospital for follow up treatment and surgery.

Mr Bir Devinder, said that Ms Jasinder Sekhon, a TV artiste, had donated Rs 1.5 lakh to the Bakarpur High School for the construction of a hall for children. He added that the other residents of the village made a collective donation for the cause.

Health camp organised

Chandigarh, November 17
The Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik organised a multi-purpose medical and health camp at Kajheri village today.

Held under the supervision of Dr G.S. Kochhar, chairman of the medical division of the Rotary Club, doctors from various departments from the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, examined the patients.

Over 300 patients were examined at the camp and medicines worth over Rs 15,000 distributed among them. The president of the club, Saroj Khosla, assured the residents that more such camps would be organised in near future.

Dr H.M. Swami, Director-Principal of the GMCH also visited the camp.

Students donate blood

Chandigarh, November 17
As many as 140 units of blood were donated by students of the Blood Donors Club of the Government College, Sector 46, Chandigarh, at a camp organised in collaboration with State Bank of India in the college campus, here today.

Mr V.K. Bhardwaj, UT Chief Engineer, was the chief guest. College principal Dr A.N. Garg, exhorted the students to donate blood so that precious lives could be saved, informed Mr Bikram Rana, in charge of the Club.

Rajasthan varsity win tennis tourney for women

Rajasthan University, Jaipur, today beat Pune University, Pune, 2-1 in the All-India Inter University Tennis Tournament for Women, organised by Panjab University, Chandigarh.

In another match, Bangalore University, Bangalore, beat JNTU, Hyderabad 2-0. Single: Divya Vijayakumar beat Pratyusha by 6-0, 6-0 and in the second single Sahalya Uthappa beat Jhansi by 6-3, 7-5.

Cricket championship
The Panchkula District Cricket Association has selected 16 probables for the Panchkula district team (under-22) to participate in the Haryana State Inter-District Cricket Championship in the trials conducted today at JR Institute of Cricket Technology, Barwala.

The selected players are Vishal Sahni, Manav Asopa, Mandeep Singla, Sunny Sharma, Umesh Kaira, Vishal Goel, Ravi Shanker, Jitender Billa, Arvind Rawat, Jagdeep Singh, Rubal Kapil, Sunny Kuleria, Karan Malik, Prayas Panchuri, Varun Khanna and Anil Kumar.

Panchkula will play its match against Chandigarh on November 26 at JK Institute of Cricket Technology, Barwala, according to Mr Sandeep Moudgil, Secretary of the Panchkula District Cricket Association.

Selection trial
The Chandigarh Amateur Bodybuilding Association will conduct selection trial on November 20 for the Junior National Bodybuilding Championship which is being held at Meerut (UP) from November 27. The trial will be held at 4 p.m. at the office of the Amateur Bodybuilding Association, SCO 62-63, Sector 17-A, Chandigarh.

Bodybuilders are requested to get their date of birth certificate in original during the selection trial. The age for the junior championship is 21 years.

Basketball tournament
St Xavier’s High School, Panchkula, will start the Emily Gosain Memorial Sub-Junior Basketball Tournament on Thursday.

The following teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament: St Stephen’s School, Chandigarh, St Kabir’s School, Chandigarh, Tender Heart School, Chandigarh, New Public School, Chandigarh, Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh, Bhavan Vidhyalaya, Panchkula, Mount Carmel, Chandigarh, St Joseph’s Chandigarh, Little Flower Convent, Panchkula, Guru Nanak School, Chandigarh, St Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School, Chandigarh, and St Xavier’s High School, Panchkula.

Champions trophy
St John’s ‘A’ today beat Little Flower School, Panchkula, by eight wickets in the first ICL Champions Trophy (under-14) for boys being played at Satluj Public School, Sector 4, Panchkula.

Batting first Little Flower were bundled out on just 83 runs due to superb bowling by Angad (3 for 18), Vishal Jadhav (2 for 8) and Akshat (2 for 14). Only Karan Goel (22) and Lovely Thakur (10) could reach double figure.

In reply St John’s ‘A’ achieved the target in the 20 overs for the loss of two wickets. Ranbir Singh (38 n.o.) remained unbeaten.

Brief scores: Little Flower Pkl 83 all out (Karan Goel 22, Angad 3 for 18, Vishal Jadhav 2 for 8, Akhshat 2 for 14).

Skating tournament
The inaugural Pre-Nationals Skating Tournament, 2004, will be organised by the Chandigarh Roller Skating Association (CRSA) on November 23 and 24 at KB DAV Centenary Public School, Sector 7-B.

The Chandigarh skating teams (boys and girls) for the National Roller Skating Championship 2004, to be held at Faridabad (Haryana) from December 7 to 11, will be selected on the basis of performances in this tournament.

Hari Singh to take part in ASEAN car rally

Chandigarh, November 17
City-based car rallyist Hari Singh will participate in the ASEAN car rally which will be flagged off from Guwahati on November 23 by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. Hari Singh said 30 rallyists from 10 countries including like Vietnam,. Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand would participate in the rally. The idea was conceived by the former Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during the Bali summit. The rally will concluded on December 10 in Singapore.

He said the main organiser of the rally was Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).The idea behind the rally was to improve trade ties trade and goodwill among the ASEAN nations.

Cricket tourney
The Punjab Warehousing Corporation outplayed Maharashtra by seven wickets in cricket match played on the second day of the National Warehousing Sports meet-2004 held today at various venues in the city. In other matches, Delhi beat Madhya Pradesh by 247 runs. In kabaddi, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra will meet each other in the final while in tug- of-war, Punjab and Delhi won their respective matches against Madhya Pradesh.

In carrom, K.Sudha and M.P. Tungari entered the final rounds of the women section. In rowing, G.G. Nayak of Karnataka stood first in single scull while in the double scull, M.Sudhakar Reddy and S. Seeramullu stood first.

In athletic events, those who got first place included, Kabul Singh (shot put), 400 metres women—Ms Rajni; shot put( women)—Kshirisigar, 400 metres (men)—Santosh, 200 metres (women)—Shobha. In table tennis (singles)— M.Tungare will meet M.D. Ramane in the final while in chess(women)—S.G. Bhosle to face D.L. Sailja in the final to be held tomorrow.

Estate Office releases list of sites to be auctioned

Chandigarh, November 17
The Estate Office today released the list of commercial and residential plots to be auctioned on December 10 and 11. About 125 commercial sites, on lease hold basis, will be auctioned on December 10. Whereas on December 11, 113 residential sites, on free hold basis, will be auctioned. Both auctions will be held at Majlis Hall, Shivalik View Hotel, Sector-17.

The commercial sites to be auctioned are 27 shop-cum-offices (SCO’s) in Sectors 33, 40, 43, 44, and 47; one SCF in Sector 31C, two atta chakki sites in Sectors 36 and 47; one restaurant site in Industrial Area, Phase-1, and eight semi-industrial sites in Sectors 44 and 46. Besides this 86 booths in Sectors 20, 31, 32, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, 44, 46 and will also be auctioned 47.

Likewise 113 free hold residential sites will be auctioned. These include one site of 4 kanal in Sector 28A; nine sites of 2 kanal in Sectors 33 and 36. Thirtyfour plots of 1 Kanal in Sectors 19, 32, 36, 38, 40 and 46 will also be auctioned. Twelve plots of 15 marla in Sectors 37, 38, 44 and 43 plots measuring 10 marla will be auctioned in Sectors 19, 33, 37, 38 and 40.

Another 12 plots of 7.5 marla in Sector 38 and 46 and two plots of 5 marla in Sectors 32 and 44 will be auctioned. The Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer, Arun Kumar, said the detailed terms and conditions were being finalised and would be put on the notice board of the office next week.
