Baby Show
: A Healthy Baby Contest for children below 5 years of age is being organised by the Indian Academy of Paediatrics at Lions Bhavan on Sunday. Dr A.K. Handa, general secretary of the academy, states they have received 500 entries and will discourage on-the-spot entries. Another attraction that has been added to the event is an inter-school group dance competition, he adds.

Seminar: The Postgraduate Department of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, will organise a two-day seminar on ‘Images of women in Indian English fiction’ on Wednesday. It is sponsored by the University Grants Commission. 

Youth festival: The Zonal Youth Festival was held at Guru Nanak National College, Doraha, from November 6 to 10. Students of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College here won the following positions: Bhangra (first position), group song (second position), group shabad (third position), kawishari group (third position), geet (Jagpreet Singh first and Kaliu Gurvinder and Balraj Singh second), sarangi (Jaswinder Singh third position) and vaar singing individual (Jaswinder Singh second position).

: Kulwant Singh (35), a farmer of nearby Jandali village, was killed when he was run over by a speeding truck on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road near Bhogiwal village. With a meager land holding of only one bigha, he used to support his family by growing vegetables. He was run over by the truck when he was taking vegetables to Malerkotla for selling in the market. He died on the spot while the cart puller, Dalbir Singh, received multiple injuries. The villager did not celebrate Divali here.

CHANDIGARH

CELEBRATED: The Rajasthan Parishad organised a “Divali milan” at Rajasthan Bhavan in Sector 33 here on Sunday evening. Artistes of the Raj Kala Mandir presented a cultural programme comprising dance and song numbers. Mr GD Bagri, parishad president, awarded prizes to the participants, according to a press note.

Bullet injuries
: A young woman, Ganga, sustained bullet injuries when a pistol went off accidently in her house in Sector 13 here on Saturday night. The injured woman was rushed to a private nursing home in Sector 14 where her condition was stated to be serious. The police has detained her husband, Narain, in this connection.

Suicide: The body of a youth, Pradeep, was found hanging in the house of his in-laws at Salimsar Majra village, about 15 km from here, on Saturday evening. The police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination. It is stated that he had gone to his in-laws’ house for taking his wife and two children back.

Injured: Two youths, Ajay and Rajeev Sethi, were injured when the motor cycle on which they were travelling was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Sonepat-Gohana road, near Mohana village about 20 km from here, on Saturday evening. Both the injured, who belonged to Panipat, were rushed to the local Civil Hospital for treatment and given first-aid before they were referred to the PGIMS at Rohtak for further treatment. They were going to Mohana.
